WOMAN ANALYZED.-A philadelphia paper says: A young woman of this oity, who had acquired the habit of whitening herself with cosmetics from head to. foot, recent? ly took a medical bath, and on emerging from it, was horrified at finding herself aa black as an Ethiopian. The trans? formation was complete. Not a Testige of the supreme Caucasian race was left. Her physician was sent for in alarm and baste. On his arrival, he laughed im? moderately, audsaid: "Madam, you are not ill; you aro no longer a woman, but a sulphuret. It is not now a question of medical treatment, but of simple chemi? cal action. I shall analyze yon. Como, I shall submit you to a bath of sulphuric acid diluted with water. Tho acid will have tho honor of combining with you; it will take np the sulphur-the metal will produce a sulphate, and we find as a precipitate, a very pretty woman." The good natured physician went through with his analysis, and the belle was re? stored to her membership with the white race. Young ladies who aro ambitions of snowy complexions should remember this, and bo careful what powder and cosmetics they use-if they nae any. A New York paper gives the following melanoboly account of what occurred to a young lady who experimented with pa? tent hair dye: A painful catastrophe bas occurred in New York. A beautiful damsel, with all tho oharms of maidenhood, unfortunate? ly had black bair. Female vanity and Niblo's Theatre taught her that blonde would be more attractive, so she rushed to the dye pot. The artist was engaged for $100, half in advance. One side of tho turbulent dark hair was smoothed into golden ripples, when the hair dress? er, to increase his profit, resorted to in? ferior drugs. The effeot was disastrous. Purple and streaked, and grey and burned, and, indeed, utterly ruinous, was the last half of the professor's work. There remained for the broken-hearted semi-blond, only the poor consolation of suing for damages. I. S?LZBACHER, At finn of the Mammoth Watch. Gregg's Building, Main Street, COLUMBIA, S.
