Y.-Lato last night, a singular and lamentable tragedy waa performed in South St. Paul street, of which wo have gathered the following particulars: A beautiful and accomplished young lady, Miss Emma W-, a stranger, temporari? ly lodging at the Osbnrn Honse, dis? guised herself in male apparel, and proceeded to No. 27 South St. Paul street, where he vend of her friends, including her uncle and mother, were Sassing the evening, whom she at rat accosted in a friendly manner, and oon versed with pleasantly enongh, though rather excitedly, for an hour or two. She is said to be a person of singularly romantic and erratic disposition, and her freak of donning man's attire, therefore, at? tract cd little attention, and created no surprise. In the course of the evening, however, she suddenly be? came insane, and, drawing a knife, attacked and fatally stabbed sn old gentleman who endeavored to curb her eccentricities, and then rushing upon her unole, whoso name was King, killed him with a single blow of hor weapon. Before the horrified spectators oonld summon presence of mind enough to seize the infuriated lunatic, she swallowed somo potent poison, apparently strychnine, and died in a few minutes. [RocJiesler Democrat, 2Slh. BENT UPON OBSTRUCTION.-Wo I have a remarkable story from Santa Fe. On the 22d of October, one D. J. P. prooeeded to the neighboring I hills to oommit suicide. While en roule he met another party, D. J. S., carrying a pistol in his hand, and likewise tired of life. They imparted their purposes to each other, and agreed to place thc muzzle of their respective pistols against each other's heart and fire. Both were instantly killed._ A London correspondent says that he saw in London, the other day, a | hand-bill inviting the burglars, thieves and ticket-of-leave men of tho vicinity to attend a lecture on prison life, by Jerry Burke, a converted thief, who had been in every prison but one in the metropolis.
