Samuel Ccbetts, for forty years Jndge of this Federal District, died of apoplexy, to-day. SAVANNAH, GA!, November 3.-The negroes appeared in great numbers, when the polls opened, and took en? tire possession. This continued until about 7 o'clock. Every white man wKo come to vote wos clubbed away. Finally a fight commenced the negroes were driven back and tho whites then commenced to vote. In a fow minutes, the negroes rallied and .attacked the whites. A negro deliberately drew a pistol and shot a policeman in tho stomaoh-mortally wounding him. The firing then be? came general in . the orowd. The polic? came to preserve order, when the negroes fought them desperately. Finally the police used their pistols, when tho negroes broke and ran. Five negroes wero killed and several wounded. Four policemen were wouuded-une mortally. A young lady residing in a house opposite the Court House was also Bhot by a ball which come in through the window, but not dangerously. Trouble is an? ticipated to-night. SAVANNAH, November 3-9 P. M. Since the morning disturbance, all has been quiet. It is impossible to say who is ahead until the actual count. At the Ogeohee precinct, the ne? groes, 1,000 strong, armed with mus? kets, shot-guns and pistols, took pos? session of the polls and allowed no D?mocratie negroes to vote. PENNSYLVANIA.-The Republicans claim Philadelphia by 2,000 majority. Altoono, Westchester Oity, Colum? bia, Gettysburg, give Republican majorities.
