That Mr. Robert Joyner was an aspirant for the oftico of Mayor of tho city of Columbia, and that his petition was ?eut in to thc Union League cf that eily for the nomination for Mayor. 2d. That, on many occasions, he pub? licly avowed that ho was a Republican and with the Republican party. 3d. That, if nominated, he would insist upon one-half of the Aldermen of tho city being nominated from tho colored men, and that he was willing to sit with them in Council, and that one-half of the Police should be colored men. This was pro? mised by him, and so understood by us, to enable him to give thc casting voto in Council, and thereby carry out tho princi? ples of the Republican party. 4th. The deponents further testify, that, on the occasion of a^ serenade at tho Na? tional Hotel, Mr. Jov?er invited the party, composed principally of colored men, into his house, and there and then made the statement that his house was open to all his friends, irrespectivo of color, and drank hana in band with bis colored friends to the success of the Republican party. 5th. Tho undersigned further state, that, on the day previous to tho election for State officers and ratification of the Constitution, that Robert Joyner said be would go down with the box to Gadsden, and that, having great influence at that precinct, be would do all he could to carry tho election for tho Republican party. I hereby certify that seven citizens ap? peared before me and testified, upon oath, that the statements made in the foregoing card are true and correct in every particu? lar. His entiro card is a base falsehood, and tho author has not only uttered an un? truth, but he knows it to bo nntruo, and ho is devoid of all principle-which he has proven by taking this opportunity, dur? ing my father's absence, in issuing'such a liase and libellous card. I, as Iiis son, take apon myself tho responsibility of re? plying to his false printed libel. Let the public ask: Who is Frazee, and who aro his ready and willing witnesses? and then they will find out his vile accom? plices. This libeller gives thiH as bis rea? son for troubling tho public: Because Mr. lt. Joyner (my father) has made tho mat? ter a political issue. I am personally re? sponsible for tho above, and desire tho public to know that I am running tho only Democratic lino of hacks in this city, and will convey passengers to Nickerson's, Central, or National Hotel, freo of charge, and will be napp* to wait on all who may ill cn me.
