THE BIO INDIAN IN THE CHICAGO CONVENTION.-An "olectrifying ef? fect" was produced in the Chicago Conveution, we are told, wheu Gen. Sickles entered on his crutches, head? ing the New York delegation. The Crosby Opera House was crowded, and the delegations were waiting in breathless silence u?d anticipation for some grand denouement and the? atrical effect-as nu audience waits for the rising of the curtain when a star actor is expected-when the Big Indian with all tho other chiefs en-1 tered. The American flog was car? ried proudly and waved over the head of tho mighty chief, amidst hurrahs that shook the building to its foundations. Wo are not informed whether this was the identical flag which Gen. Sickles, Gesler-like, made the people o' Charleston bow down before, when he was in command of that military district, but, judging from the enthusiam awakened, it probably was. Altogether this was a well-prepared and most dramatic scene. The loyal radicals should have a grand picture of it executed by a competent artist, and place it in the Rotunda of the Capitol at Wash? ington.-Neut York Herald. Fourteen steamships left New York, on the 23d, for foreign and coastwise ports. 83,000,000 in specie were ship? ped to foreign ports during the week. May 27 ly MENTAL DEPRESSION.-Mental de? pression is a diseaso of tho nervous sys? tem, and of all tho ills ilesh is heir to, it ia tho one that excites the least sympathy. It ?8 a subject of frequent jtsts, and is called by various derisive terms; hut, al? though it is often laughed at, it is not easy to laugh thc patient out of tho belief that his illd are all real, for it ia a rot dis ordtr-the general features of which aro constant fear, anxiety and gloom. Tho external senses, as well as tho mental faculties, often manifest symptoms of de? rangement. Noise, as of falling water, and ringing in the cars, are complained of, while black specks and fiery sparks fre? quently flit before the vision. Admonitions liko these should not b? disregarded, as they may, if neglected, terminate in in? sanity. The scat of thu disease is in tho brain ami nervous system, and to control the malady it is necessary to use a power-1 ful tonic and alterativo, which will correct and tone those organs without inflaming the brain. This is* tho secret of tho suc? cess of HOSTETTKR'S .STOMACH HIT? TERS iu cases of this kind, for which it is tho safest as well as the best of restora? tives. In fact, it is the only pure and reliable tonic stimulant known. Many nostrums, purporting to be tonics, are puffed up from time to time in thc newspapers, but the sufferer had better let them alone. HOSTETTER'S STOMACH BITTERS has proven itself, by many years of trial, to be in everv respect what it is represented to be. May 27 t6 AM ? RI CAN HOUSER BOSTON, MASS.
