Thursday Morning, May 21.1868. The Light Breaking. The faihi'-'i of the impeachers has given to the radicals, or destructives, a serious blow. The party reels and staggers. It is disintegrating; the charm of radical invincibility is gone. "Opinion is power." The future brightens. The Senate stood firm; seven Republican Senators stood true to their oaths. The spear of Ithuriel ia now held in hands that are strengthened, and tho canse of truth, justice and the Constitution bids fair to triumph.- Let our peo? ple take hope; but let us work. As said the Emperor Severus^ "We must labor. " Wo must cany on the con? servative cause that ,wo have started here in South Carolina. The issue is before ns. The point is patent to all. "United we stand divided we fall. " Let all the conser? vatism of the State stand together, and all will yet be well There is a day coming when an outraged South will hold to a strict account the time servers and renegades that seek to degrade her and to loy their foot npon the nooks of a spirited race. Immigration- The Colored People. Tho oomnannication of onr philo sophioal young friend in yesterday's Phoenix, on this subject, opens a yet unexplored field of thought, but ono destined to assume considerable im? portance in the future. A good deal, depends upon the course whioh the negroes of the South shall take. If they repudiate the advanoes of the Southern men, and declino to em? bark in the same political ship, they will be fought with white labor for the farm-white labor for the shop white labor for everything. Crowds of persons from Europe are eager to enter the fertile fields and to enjoy tho genial chinaco oi the sunny ?South. Let the colored man turn away from his Southern friends, who are his natural protectors, and soon will he find himself jostled aside by the Qerman, the Irish and the Swede. Let that day come, when the South shall be persuaded that the colored man bas ohosen his part with the sinking oause of a corrupt radical? ism, and his doom as fa people is written in the fate of the Indian-he must give way before the "pale faces." But let him co-operate with the men of the South, and he may long be a valuable element in the land. Under which king, Benzoni? The Committee ' appointed by the ?recent Demooratio meeting in favor ?of Gen. Hancock for President, to i wait on Gov. Seymour, have just re? turned from Utica, having had an interview with that gentleman. They say he will nndor no ci roam st an ces I be a candidate, and that they a' at / I liberty to publish the fact.
