Indian Love and Jealousy. Tho Foatorin News, in its local his? tory of events, relates the following romantic drama as occurring on th? middle hranoh of Portage Creek, in that vicinity, in the year 1830: A remnant of the Wyandot trihi of Indians camped on the banks oi the stream to hunt Among then: was the old chief Wy-noc-os and hil only daughter, Win-es-sio, or th< "light of the trjbe," as she was ofter called. Accompanying the party wert two young Indian braves, who sport ed the scalps of their white victimi as trophies of their valor. They botl aspired to the hand of the chief; daughter. She treated them botl with the courtesy becoming her rank showing no particular preference fo either. But the young braves coull not beor this state of suspense long they consequently repaired to th tent of the chief, each reciting hi noble deeds of daring, and each ii turn claiming as his bride the beauti ful Win-es-sio. Tho aged chief hear them through, and then replied "Indian will not decide; let Win-ei sio choose." Win-es-sio was silent and the chief bade them return th next doy. The two young Indians re turne the following day. The chief's ter was situated immediately on th banks of a small stream, and unde the branches of a large elm tree, tb branohes of which reached th ground, the trunk of the tree bavin broken off some twenty feet from th ground. The chief bade his daugl ter choose which should be he future husband. She arose from he seat and approached one of the wai riors, placing her hand in bis. Quic as thought, the other hurled, h: tomahawk at the accepted suitor, tl tomahawk entering the back part < his head. He fell dead at the feet < the chief. The shrieks of Win-es-s? soon aroused the whole camp, bi tho murderer made no attempt I escape. A council was called, and 1 was condemned to die the next mor ing at aun-rise, and upon the vei spot where he had slain his rival, i tho appointed time, the tribe, to tl number of some forty, assembled witness the execution. A cir clo w formed, in the centre of which s the chief and his daughter. AU w now silent; not a word was spoke but at a short distance tho doomi Indian was seen approaching, accoi paniod by three others, one on ea< side of him and one walking direct behind. Tho ring opened; they a vanced to whore tho chief and 1 daughter were sitting, when the I dian who was in tho rear sudden raised his tomahawk and struck wi such force that the tomahawk * buried to the handle in tho Iudiai skull He fell forward on his fa< when oaoh of the other Indians de deadly blows on his head with th tomahawks. It was in the mouth of Novemb Tho next spring the band loft for 1 West; but tho following Noveml Win-es-sio returned, and for tin days remained under tho branches the old elm tree where her lover h been slain. For eight years she turned to the same spot, and genei ly ou tho sumo day of the sa month, remaining two or three da The country was now fast settli np, and the children of the neighb hood looked anxiously every year the coming of Win-es-sio. She 1 fluently distributed nrownts amt them, and sang to them ber Ind songs; but she never could bo duced to accompany them to tl: homes. When asked why sho turned, tho reply was, "The spiril my lover comes and talks with m On her last visit she appeared ei eiated and care-worn; her eye 1 lost itu brilliancy; the songs sho r sung were moro melancholy tl before. Tho weather was cold, she could not be iuduced to leave spot whore she hold sweet corni nion with the departed spirit of youthful lover.
