A Philadelphian has invented and constructed au ingenious device, by which persons sitting inside their own houses can seo everything that ^passing on in tho street, not only iii front of their doors, hut for many squares in both directions and on both sides of tho street. It is a sim? ple arrangement of two mirrors, placed at right angles to each other, and set in a tin or other case or frame. It is designed to bo set in ono of tho secoud-story chamber windows, nud cnn bo used whilo the blinds aro down. Placed in the proper position, il will even show who is at tho front door hell, a mat? ter of no small convenience in these days of troublesome poddlers, im? portunate beggars and intruders gen? erally. But its most interesting em? ployment is for tho use of invalids, who cannot look ont the window, and who would like, tho monotony of tho sick room to bo relieved by n sight of what is going on in tho street. DEAD.-We learn that lon tho morning of tho 9th inst., Mr. Justin Turner was found dead in the yard of W. H. Walker, in this town. Mr. Turner was an old citizen, being about eighty yours of nge. We extract the following notice of this valuable medical work, from the Richmond Dispatch : "It is very gratifying to Southern people, as well as tue faculty, that so able a periodical is printed here. It is an invaluable adjunct to South? ern practice aud' to tho exertions to form an enlightened and prosperous school here, which become a high authority in general soience and de? velop thoroughly the peculiur types of diseases in the South. We ap? peal to the patriotism and pride of Southern physicians to sustain this work; not merely because it is a Southern work, bot because, in addi? tion to tbis, it is the largest and best medical monthly published in the the United States, as is admitted by the press generally, North and South, which has noticed it. This enterprise must bo fostered; and as one of its most important supports, the Jour? nal should be most liberally sustain? ed." NEGRO RULE.-The following is a pioture drawn by a Northern radical newspaper, of the negro rule in St. Domingo, after they have had fifty years of experience as rolers of about the fairest spot on earth : The latest news from St. Domingo, is that the country is in anarchy, and the prisons are full. Of course there must be some sort of governing force in existence to keep the prisons full; but this is probably about the full extent of its power. It is painful to see such a rich and charming part of the world given up to ruin and sav? agery. It is grievous to see tho con? trol of such a country in the hands of ! such a people. But wo seo no help for it. And we may rest satisfied that if there be any lower depths of human degradation than that which they have reached, it will not require them many years to sink to it. If thc population would resort to cannibal? ism, and devour each other out of existence, it would probably bo the best thing that could happen. SOUTHERN MURDERS-Wno COMMIT THEM?-Whenever any radical fire? brand, loyal leaguer or negro is killed or hurt in the South, the radical press and orators of tho North make a terrible noise about it. They ring the changes and howl day after day about rebel outrages, rebel hatred and robel murderers, but wo never hoar anything from thom concerning the murdered Southern whites and black outrages. Tho radical papors arc full of sensation accounts and de? nunciations cf tho murder of Ash? burn, in Georgia, but thoy say no? thing about thoy white one-armed ex-Coufederato soldier who was shot dead on his horso recently near Selma, Alabama, or of tho other four white mon who have beon murdered in the same vicinity since tho war, and no ono arrested for theso murders. No, we hear nothing from theso radicals of tho numerous other murders of tho conquered Sonthorn whites and outrages on them in other localities of the South, becauso there is evory reason to believe this is tho work of the black loyal leaguers. At a pub? lic procession and meeting of negroes at Macon, Georgia, on March 30, the "loyal blacks" carried a banner, on which tho figure of a negro, cut in pasteboard, hung dangling from a gallows, aud to which was attached, on a piece of white paper, tho follow? ing inscription: "Evory man that don't voto a radical tickot, this is tho way we want to do him-hang him by the neck." Theso radical loyal league negroes boldly proclaim? ed, too, that tho negro who foiled to register, should recoivo thirty-nine lashes; if ho failed to vote at tho election, 200 lashes, and if he vo-ted the Democratic ticket, he should bo bunged. Need wo tie surprised, then, that white Southerners are murdered in every part of the South, and that the murderers aro not arrested? The Northern friends of the black barba? rians pretend not to know anything about their murderous doings, lt is clear that the South "".der radie::', rule is fast tending to anarchy, and to a worso condition than St. Do? mingo was ever in. Some of the free hospitals in Lo inion have Jewish warda, but all the expenses of those wards are paid for from tho treasury of Jewish organizations. If any able bodied persons are out of employ? ment and need, help, they receive no gratuity, but are accommodated with a temporary loan, and the cases are said to be rare in which these debts are not fully repaid. A murderous affray occurred at I Hompstead, Texas, on Sunday last, in which three whito men were '""'ed. and two whites and two wounded. An English convict, who has "done" fifteen years penal servitude, for firing a wheat stack, has boen committed for trial for a similar offence.
