that would be a good thing. Morrill,
of Maine, did not believe there was
an honest distiller in the Union.
In tho House, tho Alabama ques?
tion was resumed, and discussed at
great length. A motion to table was
defeated, by 30 to 103. Secoud sec?
tion si ricken out. Stevens' amend?
ment as to-universal suffrage, was re?
jected without division. Spanlding'a
substitute was adopted-it declares
tho Montgomery Constitution the
fundamental law of tho Provisional
Govern mont. The officers recently
el.ioted, aro to qualify and enter upon
tho discharge of tho duties May 1st.
The Governor may convene the Le?
gislature elected under said Constitu?
tion. The Legislature shall possess

gomery Constitution. The majority
of tho electors qualified under the
Act of Congress, March 23. 1807,
have adopted a Constitution, and the
Legislature 1ms ratified the fourteenth

Tho laws to provide a more efficient

hearts of his brethren and tho respect of
