This they can afford to do; but wo should not presume, by reason of thia or our numbers, to assume these positions to ourselves. I repeat the expressions of appro? bation in my letter of the 28th of January, of your and Mr. Whipper's course in Convention, of liberality and leniency toward the late oppres sors of our race, but am, as I was in regard to the Vice-Presidency, en? tirely opposed, at this period of poli? tical experience of the country, to any person ideutilicd with the black | race entering any council of the nation as a member.
