J-Tho II 1 in ois State Register says that during the war,-the quarte rm aa tor's doparmc nt, instruct? ed by the nigger-loving authority at Washington, paid negro' teamsters twenty-five dollars per mouth and rations, while white soldiers detailed for duty as teamsters, were only paid sixteen 'dollars and. rations. . An Illinois soldier put on duty aa mule whacker, sent a written application to bis Captain, "to be promoted as nigger by brevet, and asking that the President order him on duty, with pay in accordance with his rank." A reporter for a London paper wrote the verdict of a coroner's jury, "died from beomorrhage," and the publie gained the information the next day that the-deceased "died from her marriage." This is ona par with the experience of a reporter in a Detroit paper, who, in an article on the city poor, spoke of the great number of persons reduced to pover? ty by the "mysterious deorees of Providence." His astonishment may be imagined when he saw the passage printed, "mysterious decrease of provisions.
