discussion, it transpired that tho
Senate Judiciary Committee are con?
sidering a bill relieving persons who
have been loyal since 18G2; also, that
Senators do not consider tho four?
teenth arliolo part of tho Constitu?
tion. Tho matter was postponed.
Tho tax bill was resumed. The bill
was restored to its original shape,
after a struggle to retain tho tax on
refined sugar and its products and
tuipeutine. It was stated, during
tho debate, that turpentine yielded
nearly half a million revenue. Sher?
man, in discussing tho matter, insi?
nuated that the repeal of taxes would
result in deficit. Tho bill finally
passed.
In the House, a bill providing for
vacancy in Chief Justiceship passed.
Tho Freedman's Bureau oxtension
was resumed. Maynard said ho had
received threatening intimations
from tho Kuklux Klan of Tennessee.
A motion to tnblo tho bill was de?
feated, and tho bill passed 9G to 27
a strict party vote. The bill con?
