' Farns worth's telegraph bill con?
tains fifteen sections, mostly devoted
to the protection of the public against
fraud and injustice from telegraph
companies' agents and operators. The
punishment is severe:

Congressional.
WASHINGTON, March 4.-In the
House, immediately after meeting,
Jenoks proceeded to urge his amend?
ment, declaring that impeachment
would be incomplete without crimi?
nal charging. The previous question
not being seconded, the article was
lost. The House then went into
committee of tho whole to appear
with tho managers in the Senato to
?resent impeachment articles. The
democratic members remained in
? their seats, but the others formed in
procession and proceeded to the Se?
nate chamber. After their return,
Gen. Grant was directed to report
the number of votes cast for and
against the Alabama Constitution.
In tho Senate, the chair submitted
a communication from Chase, which
was referred to a Special Committee.
The sergeant-at-arms announced the
impeachment managers, who ap?
proached the bar; the accompanying
members arranged themselves around
the back seats. Colfax was seated by
Wade. Bingham read the articles of
impeachment. Butler's, which quotes
largely from the President's most
stinging speeches, caused a sensatiou.

action, and the managers retired. A
committee of three Senators wore
appointed to notify the Chief Justice
and conduot him to the vice-Presi?
dent's soot, to-morrow, at 1 o'clock.

DEATH OF JUDGE GOUDELOCK.
Another worthy and highly respected
citizen of Union District has depart?
ed this life. Judge Davis Goudo
lock died on Thursday last, in Union
ville, S. C., at tho advanced age of
sixty-five. His death is a great loss
to his District and to the State. He
was a most excellent gentleman in
every sense of the word. He was
one of the oldest members of the
bar in the up-country, and at tho
same time one of tho most faithful,
correct and attentive counselors.

service, Mr. Wm. T. Cleveland, of
Fickens District, who died a few days
ago, of disease resulting from severe
