SPEECH WITHOUT WOftDS* CONCIiUDEI). "Imnat leave you a good blaze to comfort yon before J ge. H? puked tbo fire, and loff the poker in, but without ever taking his eye ofl mo and the bed-head "I will just ring the bell, and seo whether Thomas has got the portmanteau ready, alary," said he to the maid that answered the bell, "send Thomas up." Then, when she had gnno upon thnt errand, "By Jove! I never gave him that key. Where is it, Georgy? I have ! not a minute to lose." If it is in j your dressing-ca80 with the rest | there, I shall be an age looking fo . it. Might I ask you to get out of . bed for an instant, and show me where it is?" Ho said with his fin? gers, "Jump!" nnd 1 jumped, you may bo sure, quickly enough, and was insido the dressing-room, and with the door locked, in half a se? cond. "Come in, Thomus," said Frank, "come in," for Thomas was modestly hesitating at the chamber door. "There's some blackguard got into the house and behind my bed there. If he makes the least resistance, I'll kill him with this hot poker."' At these words the bed was pushed slowly outward, Mini the burglar, without his crape mask, and with a face as palo as ashes, emerged from his hiding-place. Frank knew bim at once as having been a bank mes? senger, who had been turned out of his situatiou since tho fire, upon su s pic-ion of dishonesty. "Oh, sir, have pity on me!" cried he; "I'm an unlucky dog. If it had not been for a sneeze, I should have had 10,000 pounds in my pocket by this time!" "Oh, you came after that, did you ?" said my husband, coolly. "Well, please to givo up that life preserver which you have in your pocket, before we have any moro conversation." "And did your lady tell you that, too?" cried the villain, in accents of astonishment, ns he delivered up tho weapon to the man-servant; "and yet I stood by yonder, and never heard her utter a syllable." "I never spoko a word," cried I, through the dressing-room key-hole, for 1 did not wish the man to think that I had broken my oath, nor, to say the truth, was I anxious to make a deadly enemy of him, iu case he should ever be at largo again. "Then it's a judgment on me," exclaimed the miserable wretch; "and it's no good for mo to fight against it." "It's not the least good," replied Frank, decisively; "and wo will go to the polico offico at once." So off the burglar went in their custody, leaving mo safe and sound, after all. And now, don't you think there may be some use in learning everything, even so small a thing us the deaf and dumb alphabet? "The Queen of Medicine." Gentlemen: 1 am well pleased with tho result of the uso of tho "Double Refined Pondretto" on my crops. I tried it on both corn and cotton, and am satisfied wherever it was applied the yield was mort* than double what it would have been without it. I regret exceedingly niy not using it moro extensively tho present year, but will try to make up my loss by purchasing a larger quantity next spring. I? regard it aa the cheapest, most reliable, and easiest man? aged fertilizer within my knowledge, and cheerfully recommend it fas I have trietl it thoroughly) to the farmers of this section, anti particularly to those plan ting cotton, from tho fact of its causing it to mature from ten days ti? two weeks earlier than it WOtild without tho uso of tho Pondretto. I also used it on my garden, and found it ot much benefit to ail kinds of plants. Very respectfully, Ac. G. S. OGLE8BY. Extract from a letter received from Prof. Martin, of Hampden. Si?uey College, Va., dated July 1, 1867: The Doublo Refined Poxidrcttc is operat? ing liko a charin on my crop, aud attract? ing universal uti int inn from all beholders. I am already satisfied that it is thc cheap? est and surest renovator of our worn-out lands. - High Shoal?, Ca., October 4, 1807. James lt. Dev, Esq. Sir: Tho Double Refined Pondretto I bought for two tither parties in connection with myself-ono of tnem used it on cotton anti corn, and thinks it answered finely; the other put it on cotton, on very poor ground, and thinks it doubled his crop. I used it on corn. It answered finely, and was thought by tho band that cultivated the crop to bo fully equal to Rhode's Super Phosphato. 1 also uaed it ou about an acre of cotton, and I am clearly of opinion that it is tho beet and cheapest fertilizer in uso, and I expect to order several tons this winter. Yours, very respectfully, ISAAC POWELL. Ellaville, Schley Co., Ga., Oct. 4, 1867. Tho Doublo Refined Poudrette, pur? chased tif you last spring, I think, in? creased my crop of cotton 150 pounds per acre; nut it upon worn-out piue land, at tho rate of 2U0 pounds per aero, drilled in With cotton Heed. Yours, ftc., S. MONTGOMERY. Salisbury, N. C., August 10, 18C7. Janus lt. Doy, Eeo.. Hear Sir: i can safely say that your Doublo Refined Poudretto is far superior to any other fertilizer for cotton; fort have given it a fair trial this season. Yours, JEHU FOSTER, Ju. Savannah, Ga., September25, 1807. James ll. Dey, Esq., President. Dear Sir: I nsed tho Double Relined Pondretto, bought of you last spring, on corn. I think it increased Ihe yield one half. I consider it an excellent manure. Respectfully, T. HOLCOMBE. Ridgeway, S. C., September 21, 1867. Mr. JamcH lt. Dey. Sir: 1 applied tho Doublo Refined Pon? dretto by itself, ami in combination with other fertilizers, on cotton, ami am pleased with it; so much so that it is my present intention to purchase a larger supply ol you the next year to apply ttl my cotton crop. Yours very respectfully, HENRY C. DAVIS. Rocky Mount, Kdgccomb Co., N. C. Nov 13, Jame's R. Dey, Esq. Sir: In reply to your Inquiry of the re? sults of our experience in tho use of youi improved Poudrette-purchased of you foi this year's cotton crop-wo would beg leave to say that the present season has boer ono unite unfavorable to tho action of al fertilizer?. Several kinds of manures were used bj us, with tho uxoepti n of your Poudrette" with little or no effect to tho crop. Where tho P uidretto was used, it gavt us near half a halo moro per acre, am caused the cotton to open much earlier ?inti wo would, therefore, recommend tin samo aH a concentrated manure for tlx growth of cotton, as well as improvemen1 to tho soil.
