Lamar, for the recovery of $100,000 damages for alleged false imprison? ment by defendant's order whiln acting as Assistant Secretary of War. L?mar says he was arrested in Sa? vannah, on the 27th of April, 1865, and taken to Washington, where he ?was confined in an ill-ventilated and vermin-infected cell. After suffering three months' imprisonment, ho was released on parole. Dana's counsel moved to transfer the action to a United States Court. - Plaintiffs coun? sel opposed tho motion, on the ground that the Act of 1867 affirming the validity of the President's procla? mations, virtually repealed the Act authorizing the transfer of such cases to United States Courts. There is to be a meoting in tho city of New York, on the 22d of February, of the victims of the despotio power which Secretaries Seward and Stan? ton wielded during tho war. This meeting will be largely attended, as many have already liunouuced their intention of being present. They embrace Governors of States, Sena? tors, members of Congress, clergy? men, doctors and lawyers, and the Convention will represent as much intellect as ever assembled iu tho United States Congress. Au old gentleman from George? town, attended Mr. Johnson's new year's levee, and complimented him by saying that he had shaken the hand of every President, and felt gratified to clasp that of the last President. Query: Is Mr. Johnson to be the "last President?" That is what tho rebels said of Mr. Lincoln. But, ,lMr. Johnson smiled," says the chronicler, and so, we suppose, he either has no fears, or "is williu." Gen. Cunby's first special order for 18G8 authorizes organization of a loyal armed police force in four Coun? ties of North Carolina, white and black, in ratio of registered voters, namely: Lenoir, six whites, seven blacks; Jones, five whites, five blacks; Craven, ten whites, twenty blacks; and Pit, eight whites, ten blacks. Where the Poudrette was used, it gavo us near half a bale more per aero, and caused the cotton to op? n much curlier; and wo would, therefore, recommend the sumo as a concentrated manure for tho growth of cotton, as well as improvement to tho sid'.
