The reception of King George by Queen Olga, in Athens, wns en? thusiastic beyond description. The cry of ''Down with the barbarous Turks," was universal. Tho Government of St. Domingo has issued a decree reducing the tariff on goods imported direct from Europe or the United States fifteen per cent, less than wheu coming throngh tho West Indian.Islands. Minister Dickinson. Mininer tc Nicaragua, transmits au elaborate account of the recent volcanic action, which continued sixteen days, mak? ing for itself a cave 200 feet high, with a crater in the top 200 feot in diameter. Tho saud covers the coun? try from the volcano to the Pacific, fifty miles. Seen at night, the rim of the crater is white, half-way down a red heat. The height of the fiamo and flying cinders was 5?0 feet. Mr. Dickinson thinks the volcano was smothered by its own discharges. Gen. Howard has not issued an order dismissing officers of the Freed? men's Bureau, for engaging in poli? tics; but has established the policy of dealing with each case os it comes up. Thus far, in several cases brought to his notioe, he has established the ride that acceptance of the nomina? tion for ..ti offioe must be considered incompatible with the duties required bf officers of the Bureau, and such agents or officers have been relieved. The latest case of this kind was that of Mr. Pilsbury, of South Carolina, a civilian agent of the Bureau, who was elected to Convention, and was noti? fied that ho could not hold both po? sitions. Gov. Haight, of California, in his inaugural, says the propriety of ad? mitting the blacks to suffrage, be? longs to each State, to determine for itself; had Congress been able to control this subject, both negroes and Chinese suffrage would probably have boen forced upon the people of Cali? fornia, against the will of the majori? ty, who, ignorant of the effects of such legislation, would have inflicted upon us evils actually intolerable. So far as California is concerned, the people of this State have ex? pressed their opposition, both tc negro and Chinese suffrage. Gov. Chamberlain, of Maine, wof inaugurated to-day. He favors a fail and square payment of the national debt, but not in one day or in a gone ration. Internal revenue receipts to-daj $1,484,000.
