Mr. Davis is expected to arrive on the 23d inst. The cost of registration in Virginia was 8239,000. The cost of the military establishment in that State, for the last ten months, was five million dollars. Wm. M. Evatts? R. H. Dana, Gen. Wells and District Attorney-General Chandler, for the prosecution in the Davis case, bad several hours consul* tatton to-day. AU these gentlemen are ready to proceed on the 25th. It is the desire of counsel for defence that Chase should preside id con? junction with Underwood. In this they are influenced by important legal considerations. The trial will proceed on the original indictment. Mr. Davis will be present at the time required by his bond, although it is doubtful whether his trial will imme? diately commence.
