He made four miles in 7.31 but was booked to do it in 7.20. He had four horses to run with him at different points. On the last half of the fourth mile, tho weight he carried began to tell, and he perceptibly shortened his stide. The horse was the favorite at $100 to $80. NORWALK, CONK., October 17. The Democrats carried the charter election by a largely increased ma? jority. RICHMOND, Ootober 17.-The po? litical excitement is on the increase. The conservatives are working with much energy, and everything indi? cates that there will be an exciting election, and that a full whito vote will be polled for the delegates and against a convention. The Horticultural and homological Exhibition closed to-day, with the distribution of prizes. It is consi? dered a great success. Wise's speech is looked upon as his greatest effort. There was a large attendance to? night at the concert given in Dr. Borrows' church-the First Baptist noon the occasion of the inauguration of the great organ. It was built in Boston, has 1,800 pipes, and is con? sidered by musicians the best in the United States. The Norfolk Journal, of the 17th, concludes an article on the Taylor farm difficulty as follows: "There was no difficulty at all-it being simply a meeting in whioh the sub? ject waa discussed in all points, if any difficulty exists at this time, it is unknown to the Freedmen's Bureau."
