G. Drury, rector of Claydon, in Suffolk, recently caused the arrest and impri? sonment of two lads for swigging beer in church and for other disor? derly conduct. When the boys came out of jail, they were met by an escort of lads of thoir own age, and tho party proceeds to the rectory with sticks and staves, nud there, as tho papers say, "made hideous noises. Afterwards, a party of villagers ran? sacked tho church, took down a large cross from over the altar and broke it to pieces, destroyed the cau? dles and carried away tho vases. RECONSTBCCTION.-Tho New York Tribune says that the President had better let well enough alone. It does not think that tho country will per? mit any interferencj on the part of the President with the Reconstruc? tion Acts; and it believes that if ho attempts to hold back from perform? ing his duty, the era of good feeling will become a season of hate aud rage, and that a summer session of Congress will bo inevitable. Lord Derby's recent awards of lite? rary pensions include annual sums ot* ?100 to Mrs. Chisholm, the writer and philanthropist; .?100 to four daughters of tho late Dr. Petro, au eminent antiquary of Dublin; and ?95 to Mr. George Cruikshank, tho artist.
