How would it suit t!ie great mora! negro party of the North to have twenty coal black and sweet-scented darkies in the Senate, and about fifty in tho HouseV Would they not hold their noses and stan.! aghast at the logical consequences of their own schemes? Would they not immediately exhibit a general disgust at tho associates the ?South had sent them, and broome the laughing-stork ol tu.' world? They would have no right to complain that the South pre lerrcd honest negroes to dishonest white mon as their representatives. The alternative would have been forced upon them and they compelled to malee tho most ol' a bad bargain. Perhaps, however, this arrangement would chime in exactly with the fa? natical notions of tho Jacobins, and hy way of convincing the world of tito sincerity of their professions, t'uey might elect two enfiles presiding officers of the two houses. Then, in the event of tho death of the Presi? dent and Vice-President, wc should have a negro President, who could lill every oilier in tho Government, both at home and abroad, with men of his own color.
