Kinard, Newberry. Samuel Drouthitt, Greenville C. H. Wm. Moore, Abbeville C. H. JuUus Poppe, Anderson C. II. THE NEW FIVE CENT PIECE.-A correspondent of the American Jour? nal of Neum istnatics, writes : After a careful search during the first half of the present year, I have at length succeeded, by the help of a friend, in obtaining a proof (?) set of the one, two, three and live cent pieces of 1866; and inasmuch us the latter piece, particularly, is an "original," both in desigu and workmanship, perhaps a description of it may prove acceptable. I say it is an "origuul," because I have seen nothing like it in my col? lections, which abounds in all sorbs; "bung downs," Chinese cash, Ger man stivers, hellers and kreutzers; ! therefore, I think I um correct in the statement. On the obverse of this reniarkuble coin, the first thing that attracts the attention is a very elaborate and highly ornamented gridiron, the clumsy handle of which appears to be broken from the body, thus render? ing this culinary utensil almost use? less. The upper part and sides of this gridiron are hung with leaves of some sort, strongly reminding one,of the savory bunches of herbs displayed in a market house in Autumn, or ai green grocer's sign in hnckle-berry time. Perhaps the same accident that severed the handle of the gridiron, also fractured the lower part, for we notice that it is there skewered by two arrows, pointing in opposite directions. ? The motto, '-in Cod we trust," is very opportune, for the inventor of this coin may rest assured that the devil will never forgive him for such an abortion. WHITE TENANTRY".-Several gentle? men of our acquaintance, who leased lands to tenants from the upper Counties, have made contracts with them for another year, says the Selma Messenger, and are desirous of pro? curing more labor of the same kimi. On this subject, the editor of the Livingston Journal, who is an int elli- j gent witness on the value of white labor, makes the following remarks: "We infer from the experience of our planters in making the present crop, that they would willingly try the experiment of ir?iile labor, if an opportunity were afforded. We are so well satisfied of the superiority of that kind of labor over what is now employed, that it seems useless to argue it. The difference between in? telligent white labor and that of free negroes is just the difference be? tween a rational human being and a machine-and that machine one that cannot be controlled ht will. It is the difference between mind and matter." It is the intention of-"Brick" Pomeroy to issue "one edition of a Democratic blister for tho backs of bondholders, Um m haters, nigger lovers, and such props of the God and morality party, Lo be called the Great Campaign Democrat." It is to con? tain some of " Brick's" famous solilo? quies, pictures of the blessings of Abolitionism, arguments, etc. ; its j "aim will be to infuse pluck into! Democrats, to opeu the eyes of tax j .payers, to lash the scoundrels over i the course this fall. It will be a blis- ! ter, a plaster of potash, an antidote ! for puritanism;" and altogether it will be one of the deadliest shafts wielded against the radicals during the cont? ing great political campaigu. While recognizing the liberty of the people to carry weapous, as set forth in the bill of rights, (Jovernor Throckmorton, of Texas, recom? mends the checking of the growing abuse of the privilege, by the levy of a tax upon all weapous carried about the person, failure to pay which shall justify their seizure. This not to apply to parsons living on tho fron? tier, or to travelers. Two ladies were discovered in an attempt to smuggle under their skirts a youth fourteen years of age, io the cars from Hartford to New Haven.* A jjiTTLiE INCIDENT."-The Cin? cinnati Commercial records the fol- I lowing little incident as Inn ing occurred j while the President was at Pittsburg: \ A little incident occurred during j tho banquet, which created consider- | able amusement. A small box address- j cd to "His Excellency the President of ? the United States," was brought into thc banqueting room. At first, leurs j wore entertained that the box con- ? tai nod n torpedo, but after a brief consultation it was* resolved to open it aud Ko? the cou tents. This discovery, which brings the number of asteroids np to eighty eight, was made with the new tele- j scope, which is constructed ou a ? hitherto untried principle. The pla- j net has the appearance of a star of the nindi magnitude. Tho responsibility for your sum ring rests upon yourselves. Just as surely as you shake to-day, or will shake to-morrow, HOSTETTER'S CELEBRATED STOMACH HITTERS will extinguish the disease under which you labor. Had' you taken* this genial tonic as a preventive, you would have no need of it as a cure; for it renders the Sys? tem impervious to all miasmatic fevers. But since you neglected thc precaution, rid yourselves without delay of the com? plaint by resorting to tho only reliable remedy. Dreak the chills with Hostetter's Hitters, and they will return no more. This is the experience of thousands, and it will be yours. Quinine is a slow means of re? lict; it is nauseous to the last degree; it is more dangerous than the malady itRclf; in many cast s it utterly fails. How different is the effect of the Hitters! Their curative action is rapid: they are agreeable to the palate; they are not only entirely harm? less, but tend inevitably to strengthen the constitution and'prolong life; they never hare foiled, and it is confidently assumed that they nerti- van fail in any case of Fever and Ague, however inveterate in its character. To be without Hostetter's Bit? ters in any region infested with Intermit? tent or Remittent Fever, is simply to reject safety and court disease. Dr. Maggiel is tho founder of a new medi? cal system* The qnantitariaus, whose vast internal doses enfeeblo the stomach and paralyze the bowels, must give precedence to the man who restores health and appe? tite, wivh from one to two of his extraordi? nary Pills, and cures the most virulent sores with a box or so of his wonderful and all-healing Salve. These two great speci? fies of the Doctor arc fast superseding all the stereotyped nostrums of thc day. Ex? traordinary cures by Maggiel's Fills and Salve have opened the eyes of the public to the inefficiency of the (so-called) remedies of others, and upon which people have so long blindly depended. Maggiel's Fills arc not of the class that are swallowed by the dozen, ?nd of which every box full taken creates an absolute necessity for another. One or two of Maggiel's Fills suffices to place the bowels in perfect order, tone the stomach, create an appetite and render the spirits light and buoyant. There is no griping and no reaction in the form of con? stipation. If the liver is affected, its func? tions are restored; and if the nervous sys? tem in feeble, it is invigorated. This last quality makes tho medicines very dcsirablo for the want? of delicate females. Ulcerous and eruptive diseases are literally extin? guished by the disinfectant power of Mag? giel's Salve. In fact, it is hero announced that Maggie?$ Bilious, Dyspeptic and Diar? rhoea Pills cure where all others fail. While for burns, scalds, chilblains, cuts and all abrasions of the skin MaggieVs Salve is in? fallible. Sol 1 by J. AS other parties aro advertising themselves as having purchased the property ?nd business of the Emery Agricultural Works, increased their facilities, ana are con? tinuing tlie business, the effect of which, if not the intention, is to divert the patronage and business from the well known and long established EMERY'S ALBANY. AORICUL TURAL WORKS of this city, the proprietors of these Works, in self-defence, and to inform their patrons that they still live, beg a careful perusal of the following card: The above celebrated Works were originated and erected during the years 1847, '48 and '49, by tho present senior proprietor, who has (with short interruptions) boen con? stantly connected with them as the principal manager, aud since 1863, in connection with his junior brothers, under the style of Emery Brothers. During the summer of 1862, he attended th' World's Fair at London^ with some of his leading inventions, atid remained abro i J nearly two years, engaged in successfully establishing tlieir manufacture. In the meantime, owing to embarrassments and losses, the Arm of Emery Brothers, consisting of Wm. B and G. W. Emery, made an a-signment, and these entire works and business wece sold, and puroiiased by other parties, and the said firm ceased to i xist from November 1, lat>2, leaving the brothers, Win. B. and G. W., hopelessly bank? rupt. On "nis ri turu from England, in the early part of 1861, the present senior proprietor negotiated - ir aud re-purchased the entire interest, real and personal, in and t-o these works ami business, including its entire accumulation of patterns. Working machinery and its business, and continued the same, witti the aid of Wm. B. and G. W., to No? vember 1, 1864, when he assumed its entire management on his own account-Wu. B. audG. W., for a very valuable cash cons.deration, preferring to relinquish all antici? pated interests and retire therefrom, and with the intention with these funds of com? promising with their creditors. He has since associated with him his eldest son, HORACT HEBBERT EMERY, under the style and name at the head of this notice, and continues the business, in all its branches, at the old stand-than which no more owmplete establishment of its kind exists in tlie country. Th- v have largely increased their facilities, made many new and valuable additions and im: roveuacnts to their already large assortment of machines, which their expe? rte.au i observation, at home ana abroad, have suggested as desirable. The semor member of the firm is the pioneer of this business here, and he has been the designer, protector and patentee of all the leading and sueceswiul machines which have given the wida celebrity to these works; among which are the EMERY HORSE POWERS. COTTON GINS and CONDENSERS, Threshing Machines. Sawing Milla, Corn Sheliers, Churning Machin?s, Cotton Openers, A?., all of which they now ofter the public on the most liberal terms, and a coutiuuance of their patronage*is solicited. In the articles of Cotton Gins and Condensers, they are the only parties manufactur? ing them with the improvements which have given these Oms the precedence and their world-wide reputation, notwithstanding other partie? are now representing that they have purchased the Emery Agricultural Works and are making these celebrated ma? chines-as a gla..ce at the facts and their machines wiR satisfy the moat common observer. The property which was purchased by said other parties, and called the Emerv Agri? cultural Works, consisted of a receut collection of machines, tools, patterns.
