A remarkable case of mistaken identity has just come to light. Sc vent! yean ago, an English burglar named Collins -killed his wife, on the ; outskirts of Providence, Rhode Is- ; mud. On the day of the murder, a ! nea captain, named J. M. Cookson, ! and his wife, quarrelled and sepa? rated. When tho body of Mrs. Col-1 lins was found, it was identified os that of Mrs. Cookson, whose husband was arrested, tried and would have been hanged but for the timely re? appearance of his wife. The question was then raised, who was the mur? dered woman? The answer hos at last been furnished by a professional burglar, recently arrested in New York, who knew Collins and bis wife, and who has related all the facts to the police authorities in New York.
