AN INTERESTING SEQUEL- TO A HASTY DIVORCE.-A correspondent of the j Volks/'rental, writing from "The ln I diana Prairie," April 30, relates thc i following: j "In Sullivan County, a young lnar I ried pair, who had been united in the bonds of wedlock about six years, j having become somewhat mutually ! disagreeable of late, the husband, in ; his anger, hastened to a lawyer, and took steps to obtain a divorce from i his wife. One day he came home to . his wifo and sai i to her: "Betsy, I ; have fulfilled vonr wish. You said i you wished you were separated from ! me. Here is the decree of divorce." . His wife was at first surprised, but j far too iudiguaut to betray any I emotion. She said she was ready to ; leave. She only needed to pack up . her goods. Sin; wished he would be ? present to see that she took nothing j except what was lier own. He . stepped into the adjoining room with j her where the bureau and oloth.es j press wore. The v. ile proceeded in . silence to take out the clothes, when I suddenly her eyes fell upon a small I dress, and ipiite overcome, she broke : out in convulsive weeping. The hus ' band, hitherto an indifferent ob I server, remarked her emotion, and discovered the cause, lt was the dress of their only child, a little daughter of turee years, who had died almost two years ago. Thc hus? band was not less affected by the sight than his wife. He embraced ! her with emotion, begged her pardon j again and again, tore the decree of I divorce into a thousand pieces, has I tened to the Clerk's office, took out ! a new marriage license, and was I married immediately to his late wife." We see it stated that the noble-heart? ed little girls of Baltimore aro making arrangements to hold a fair of their own for the benefit of the poor little children of the Southern States.
