Dee. olin) Hin sm 3.1131 Kilt EMIGRATION TO THE SOUTH.-A Georgia paper says that attention is turning to Cherokee, Georgia, as a region peculiarly inviting to emi? grants. Many farms havo lately been sold to persons from other portions of Georgia, and from Tennessee, and colonies from New York and Penn? sylvania are expected soon. The Memphis Appeal says: "We yee it stated in se vend Now York papers that there arc at present agents in that city from Memphis aud other Southern cities for thc purpose of procuring emigrants from Europe to go South. They say that poor and destitute emigrants are fur? nished with free passage, and that during the past few weeks several batches of emigrants, mostly Ger? mans and Swedes, have been for? warded to various points in the South -to Memphis, Charleston and Sa? vannah. A party of about fifty emi? grants who had just landed here wore forwarded to Memphis on the 15th inst., and about 150 left for New Orleans, Memphis and Little Kock on the Saturday previous. It is con? fidently anticipated that the Southern agents will be enabled to divert emi? gration'' and travel from the West to the South, on account of the high rates of fare on the Western railroads, which, it seems, were raised to the present high standard during the late war. The poorer classes of the emi? grants are unable to pay these high rates. It is also stated that quite a number of German emigrants, mostly mechanics, have also left New York for this city by way of New Orleans. So, in a short time, we may expect ithe arrival of these emigrants." Premium Platform Scales. AFULL supply of PLATFORM SCALES, capacity from 400 to 1,200 pounds.
