The accident was Im? mediately discovered by Captain Everett, the conductor ID charge, who Instantly pulled the bell to give the necessary warning. At this Mme the first-class coach and the sleeping car J were running smoothly on the track, and he ordered the brakes on the smoking car with the hope that lt would break loose irom the other cars; bnt lost as be had done so be became aware or.the startling fact, which be bad not before suspected, that they were on the point of crossing a dangerous txestle, one of the highest on the road. Chew, or Augusta, Ga., ankle badly sprained and hip injured; Mrs, Chew, wife or the above, received a severe contusion on the forehead; two ladles accom- ] panylng Mr. and Tirs. Chew, received no Inju? ries whatever; Mr. Chambers, of New Orleans, waa severely injured about the lace, back and breast; Mrs. M. A. Waller, of Montgomery, Ala., niece of Mr. Chambers, was seriously bruised about the body; a S. Solomons, super? intendent of the Northeastern Railroad, South Carolina, was slightly braised on the knee; W. J. Smith, Abbeville, S. C., badly Injured about the head. There were several others who re-1 calved slight injuries. We are glad to learn that none of the wounded are considered seri? ously hurt. The accident, we are Informed, was oaused by a misplaced rall, which waa found after the I accident, tamed over on one side, and loose, bat with the spikes driven firmly into the ties. Whether the position of the rail was the result of accident or design ls a matter for conjec? ture, bat IA supposed by some that it was pur? posely misplaced by some one with the Inten? tion or throwing the train off the track. The distan oe from the top of the trestle to the bed of the small stream down to which the cara were precipitated, was about twenty-five or thirty feet, and the rear end of the sleeping car waa driven some distance nuder the water. We learn that the road will probably be clear in time for the train? to pass this morang. The two cara were badly amashed, and tho traes; considerably tom op in the Vicinity of the trestle, whlob was about the exte nt of the damage to the road.
