THE PORT ROYAL RAILROAD.-This road IE heartily abased by the Beaufort Republican, which says that passengers who left Charles ton on Saturday were twenty-flvo hoon in getting to Beaufort. Hogan, Spring street I SINGULAR CASE OF SUICIDE. William Ktempera, white, a native of Am? sterdam, Holland, and cook and steward on th? BrltlBh brig Slmoda, committed suicide In the forecasilS or that vessel, on last Saturday morning, in the following singular manner: Having seated himself lengthwise upon a "beam which rons through the forecastle, he fastened one end of a rope around his neck and the other to a wooden pin fixed In the side of the Blip, and then swung himself from his seat, dying of strangulat ion, with his feet resting upon the ship's deck, and his body raised about an inch therefrom. In this posi? tion ne was lound, about eleven o'cock A. M., by a sailor who went into the forecastle In search ot a chain. The sailor immediately summoned the captain, who ordered the body to be cut down and brought on the upper deck. Such restoratives as were at hand were at once applied, but lt waj soon found that the man was quite dead. Deputy Coroner A. H. Mackey held an Inquest over the body on Saturday afternoon and ren? dered a verdict In accordance with the above tacts. The deceased -shipped on board the ri moda at Bo-tun on the 2d of June, 1872. He had represented himself to the ealiors as a widower with two children. The cause of the suicide ls not known. The deceased was of a retiring and melancholy disposition. He ap? pears to have been kindly treated by the cap? tain and crew. He was heard,- by one of the sailors on Friday night to talk a great deal iibout his children and wish that be could see them. He was seen by the second mate about three-quarters of an hour before the suicide was discovered. Atter the inquest, the Bev. William B.
