Too CHEAP.-THSterday afternoon a negro
man was offering for sale, near the Four-Mile
House, a lot of floe clothing at a price which
aroused the suspicions that se had not come
by them honestly. The articles were seized,
and on examination found to be marked J. M.
Ward. The dothes-selier disappeared as fast
as be could, and bis wares are undoubtedly the
fruits of one of the recent burglaries In the
clty' -
INCIDENT OF THE STORM.-During the thun?
der and rain storm on Sunday night, about
ball-past eight o'clock, a house tn the lower
part of ibeoliy was struck by lightning. The
fluid broke plastering, melted the bell-wires
and created confusion generally, but without
Injuring any of the Inmates. Some, however,
narrowly escaped. The building was provided
with a lightning rod, which probably prevent?
ed further damage.

APTER THE MELONS. - James Garrett and 1
John Pon to ux, two colored boys, were found '
sleeping, at four o'clock yesterday morning,
in the piazza ot a house at the corner of Shep- 1
pard and King streets. The tell tale melon '
rlndi around argued strongly that the young '
epicures, who could give no account of tnem
selves, had been depredating upon the farms '
around, and on the evidence of the owner the '
prisoners were turned over to a trial justice 1
for examination. <

A BLOODY FIGHT.-Thos. Williams, a oolored ,
youth, was brought to the city la-t evening, on
a cart, from Mr. Cha?. Cobrs's farm, at the
Eight-Mile Pump, where he had been badly
wounded, In the morning, in a fleht with a
colored woman named Monia Bennett The ;
two bad a quarrel about the crop which they
were working, and, coming to blows, Monia
assailed her antagonist with a heavy hoe. She
struck bim two blows, on the back of the head
and on the left shoulderblade, inflicting deep
and ngly gashes. Owing to the small-pox
being in the house where the sufferer was
living, he could not be taken into the City
Hospital, and at a late hour was still on the
cart In the street.
TAX SALES -The sale of the real estate In I

was resumed yesterday, and the following <
