At the meeting of the City Council, last ruesday evening, Mayor Wagener made the fellowing interesting report of the improve? ments now in progress at the Battery: I have bad the Battery put In good order, ind in a few days the railings will also be re? paired. There was an unsightly structure used as a music stand and tribune in the gar? den which I have caused to be removed. The hag staff is thoroughly rotten, and has become dangerous; it must be taken down. But for the pleasure ot our music-loving citizens and also for the use of the muslc-lovlog citizens, and also for the use of the festive occasions of a large portion of our community, a music stand and tribune would be- desirable. Both can be combined in one building. I have, therefore, .had a plan and specifications pre? pared of a structure, which can have a flag staff attached to lt, and which will be an ornament to the grounds. The whole cost will not ex? ceed four hundred dollars. I would respect? fully ask Council to refer this matter to the committee on publio grounds and buildings with power to act immediately. The committee on the Artesian Well submit? ted the following report at the same meeting : The committee on the Artesian Well re? spectfully report that after much trouble and great consideration they have finally concluded upon a locality lor the watering troughs, which, it is hoped, will meet no further objec? tion on any part of the public. On the south side of Pinckney street, between Anson and Church streets, are vacant lois which will not be in? commoded by the horses. and1 vehicles. The location ls in the high-road of the principal dray and truck travel connected with paved streets, and yet not interfering nor obstruct? ing a free and easy passage. No private resi? dences nor any church will be annoyed, nor can the citizens doing business there object, because their business is Buch-storekeeper, blacksmiths and wheelwrights-that their cus? tom will increase in consequence. Your com? mittee would, therefore, respectlully-secom mend that the troughs of the Aft#Ma? well be removed to the s owl h pavement of Pinckney street, between Anson and Church Streets;, that it be "placed on the south edge of the pavement, and the rest of the pavement be -cut away to widen the streets, arid that the troughs be made the whole length of the square. Ycm*%om mit tee would further recom? mend that the committee bu contracts adver? tise immediately for offers to contract for the said removal, with power tb accept the lowest bidder, and have the said removal effected at once. - (Signed,) F. BROWN, 1 ALVA GAGE, V Committee. C. VOIGT, J ACADEMY OP -Music.-The Martinettl-Bavel troupe played last evening at the Academy before a fair house. The bljl was an extensive and varied one, including three pantomimes, with Bongs, dances, Ac, in addition, which were ail well received and loudly applauded. To-night the troupe conclude their engage? ment here and offer a most varied and attract? ive programme. Their real merit, and the public-spirited charity which they evinced yes? terday to the orphans of the elty, bespeak a crowded house lor them this evening. Hotel Arrivais-april 17. PAVILION HOTEL.
