The financial Chronicle says: The market for the past wee- has bee i very dull, and with the demand so limited, prices have gradually weak? ened, closing to day with ordinary % off, and mlddl og and grades above unchanged. This depression ls the natural result of an absence of demand, holders still appearing to have confi? dence in the strength of the position of cotton; with the old crop turn.ng ont so small and the new crop starting nuder unfavorable auspices, they are not Induced jost at present to lower their expectations. Liverpool, however, does not ap? pear ready to bid higher, so that shippers are sent out from onr market while our own shippers hold off, buying only ta supply immediate wants. To? cay there hss been rather more dol-jg. buyers picking op cheap lota whenever ?round, but there was no change in the official quotations. For forward delivery the movement has been less active than for many weeks, but prlces have been well sustained.
