XAUNDAY THURSDAY. ^?n thejEpiscopal churches yesterday, there were the usual morning services for Holy Week. At the Church ol the Holy Commun? ion, last evening, a large congregation assem? bled to take part In the preparation for the Easter services, which axe expected to be of an unusually interesting and solemn char? acter. The services in the Roman Catholic churches Included a procession and the blessing of the oils used In administering baptism, confirma? tion, extreme unction, Ac. During the whole of the day and night the sacrament was ex? posed in the repository prepared tor lt. At the Cathedral the repository on the left Of the main altar was a mass of fragrant flow? ers and blazing lights, surmounted by an elaborately adorned canopy. The Tenebro las; evening were attended by a crowded congregation. At St, Patrick's Church the repository, as last year, was a brilliant pyramid of lights and flowers. The church was thronged with ? worshippers. At St. Mary's a new tabernacle had been prepared, which, with the elaborate lace c?r? talos, the rare exotics and myriad twinkling tapers, made the repository exceedingly at? tractive in Its tasteful beauty. At St. Peter's the repository was formed upon the high altar, so that the whole breadth of the church was available for purposes of floral decoration a There was a profusion of tapers, colored lights and brilliant flowers, all handsomely arranged. Aft St. Joseph's the repository wa?, as usual, decorated with a pious care which, In taste and richness, left nothing to be desired. GOOD FRIDAY.-To-day will be observed by special services In the Episcopal and Roman Catholic Churches. The South Carolina Presbytery will meet at Abbeville on Wednesday, April lOtb, at 7 P. M. The steamship Virginia will not leave for Philadelphia until to-morrow morning at eleven o'clock. ARRIVAL OF THE CITY POINT.-This favorite Florida packet brought up a very large num? ber of passengers yesterday afternoon, and landed about thirty at Union wharves, where the South Carolina was In walling, about to start for New York. For real comfort the Florida steam packets and the splendid steam? ships running from this city to New York at? tract a very large travel over the line. Panknin, upon the origin and prevention of yellow fever. This report ls far too thorough and suggestive to be disposed of In a paragraph. We shall notice lt at length at an early day. ODD FELLOWS' CELEBRATION_The Indepen? dent Order of Odd Fellows will celebrate the fllty-third anniversary of the introduction of their order into America on the 26th of April next. Several orations on the subject and beauties of Odd Fellowship will be delivered at the Freundschaltsbund Hall, andamongthe speakers will be General W. G. DeSaussure and J. Somers Buist, M. D. Extensive prepa? rations are on .foot, and this charitable order wi il doubtless have a celebration worthy of Its membership and record. CLAIM YOUR HATS.-Between twelve and one o'clock yesterday morning, a thief, who was suddenly jumped at tbe northeast corner of Montague and Gadsden streets, dropped a bondie on the premises, which was picked up by aktfetective and found to contain Ave bats and a blue cotton umbrella. The hats are evidently the result of some successful raid npon a parlor entrance, and consist of. four floe felts-two black, one claret colored, and one blue-all of the latest style, and one boy's cloth hat with a velvet rim. The hat?may be seen at the detective office. THE FARMING INTEREST.-The meeting this evening of the executive committee of the Agricultural Society o? South Carolina ls call? ed for the purpose of making arrangements for shipping produce during the coming season. The farming interest has, through the industry and application of those engaged in it, come to be one o? our most important branches of industry; it ls developing a -trade local in character, and, therefore, entitled to the first and best aid we can give li. We hope that such facilities for transportation will be afforded by our railroad and steamship lines as will be satisfactory to the farmer. SLTNO-SHOTS.-Five small white boys, whose names are not mentioned, were reported yes? terday morning by tbe detectives for firing buck-shot from small slings and breaking the window-glasses of various houses. THC ARRESTS IN SPARTANBORO.-AS already reported by telegraph a large number of mil? itary arrests have lately been made in Spar tanburg County by the military authorities. The Carolina Spartan reports that the follow? ing persons have been arrested and impris? oned since the 16th instant by United States officers, and are now In Jail: Barnett Rus? sell, Plnckney George,? James Kimbrell, Bru? no Hunter, Ellas Burnett, Wm. Owens, Thos. Service, Wm. Moor, Marion Britton, John Mull, Jake Waters, Jerry McArlbur and Wm. Hamerton. HECTOR, SWIFT OF FOOT.-Hector Gardiner, the famous poultry thief, and noted for his I irequent and daring escapes irem justice, es? caped once more yesterday irom the jail in open day. Hector bad been committed for | thirty days, and being a handy boy, was em? ployed to attend to some domestic duties j in the jail. Yesterday morning he went into the yard openly and secreted himself so well that, although missed, be foiled a strict search lor him. As soon as this was over, he rushed from bis hiding-place, seized a board, placed It against the wall of the Jail yard, and was barely discerned as be ran nimbly up the board and mode a flying leap over to tbe other side. A pursuit was attempted, but the speed of the fugitive, and his well known dexterity In leaping fenceB and escaping officers, served him in good stead. . He has not since been heard from.
