The doctor thought the calves were Jost as good, li not a little better, after beiBg inoculated and recovering from the effects. It tended to purify them." The same thing had been ddne in france for years, he said. The Frenchmen ate the veal, and not a Frenchman had yet been poisoned. The New York World, tco, which is nothing if not scientific, endeavors to allay the terrors of the veal eaters by the Information that the virus of the small pox even may be swallowed with perfect Impunity. Notwithstanding these assurances, "vaccin? ated veal" IB not likely to become a popular dish. -The unpleasant Mordanut case ha? again come ap la a characteristically unpleasant mariner. "Debrett's Baronetage" is a very useful publication, compiled from information supplied to the editor by the persons inter? ested: An annual edition is prepared, in which additions or omissions are made, according to vital changes or new creations of titles. L appears that the editor of "Debrett" has twice sent to Slr Charles Hordaunt a proof sheet of the page referring to the Mordaunt family, in which he says of J3Ir Charles: "And has issue living-daughter, born 1869." In ' view of the very unpleasant disclosures made concerning Lady Horgannt's entries In her diary Slr Charles felt unwilling to allow this statement to remain, so he penned lo the edi ' tor of "Debrett" a rather sharp letter requesting I that the addition should be excluded. This was I not done, whereupon the Baronet, alter ex? plaining that it had been done by tie editors I of all other peerages, declared that "If the ' words erased are not omitted I shall bring an action against you, which will at all events bring out facts which I am desirous should be known, and for that reason.I am indifferent as to whether yon have the law on your side or not. These - facts will theo come out in a court of common law, and perhaps you your? self, la conjunction with some others, would rather that such further exposure did not take place, but In this respect you will consult your own IbterestB and those di Lady Mordaunt and her relations."
