ON SUSPICION.-GUS Williams, a well-known Character, was arrested yesterday afternoon J$ the detectives on suspicion of_being impli? cated in the robbery of tobacco from the store at the corner of Elliott street and East Bay. He is held for examination. * PARADE-The Union Star Fire Eoglne Com? pany paraded yesterday through the streets with a fine band of music at their head. The engine and hose-reel were both handsomely decorated with flowers, and nearly seventy men paraded. They made a fine show. THE BALTIMORE LINE.-Shippers will note that the steamship Maryland resumes her place on this line, and will follow the Sea Gull on the 5tb or 6th March, thus affording them an opportunity of sending their freights forward to Baltimore and points beyond every, fifth day._ THE PUBLIC HEALTH.-Attention is invited to the notice of Dr. Pelzer, the city registrar, In another column, requesting the citizens to report all nuisances regarded as prejudicial to the public health. Complaint books will be kept for the purpose at the upper and lower Guardhouses, and all entries therein will be promptly attended to. THE BISHOP'S SERMON.-The Inaugural ser? mon preached by the Right Rev.- Bishop Howe, on the ??th of last December, before the clergy and laity assembled in St. Philip's Church, Charleston, bas been printed in a neat pamphlet by Messrs. THE ROBIN SHOOTER.-Joseph Pinckney, the young sportsman, who did not kill Cock Bobin on the Meeting street Road, near Payne's fa rm, and who did shoot Sarah Sin? gleton lo the head, was brought before the Mayor yesterday morn In g. On second thought all of the parties interested had concluded that tbe affair was an accident, and the offen? der was dismissed at the Instance of the prosecutrix upon paying a fine of two dollars. Too MUCH DRINK.-Coroner Taft held an in? quest yesterday morning over the body of a colored woman, named Julia Pinckney, who died soddenly at her.place of residence, No. 9 ?mott street. The evidence sbqwed that the deceased was an habitual drinker to excess, and on Sunday had swallowed over a pint ol whiskey. Next morning she seemed to be in great pain, and before the physician who was summoned could relieve her she died. The deceased was but twenty-six years of age. The jury found that she died of "excessive alcoholism." AMONO THE BREAKERS.-Late on Saturday night the British ship Melita, Captain Light body, while attempting to make the harbor, got ashore among the south breakers, where she remained six hours, thumping heavily. . She strained her hull and rigging, and sprung several leaks. She was boarded by a pilot, about daylight, and brought into the roads, whence she was towed up to Commercial wharf on Sunday by a-eteamer. A steam en? gine was employed yesterday pumping the water out of her hold. The ship is consigned to Captain Henry Card. MASQUERADE BALL.-The. annual masque? rade ball of the Gorman Elfie Club wUl take place on Thursday evening next at the Acade? my of Music. PANTOMIME AT THE ACADEMY.-The Abbott Pantomime Troupe made their first appear? ance at the Academy of Music last evening, in "The Three Hunchbacks," before a large audience. The new pantomime, abounding In comic situations and new and startling tricks, and that great essential-a ?ne band ot music, which accompanies the troupe, made a highly favorable Impression, and kept the house in a roar throughout the piece. Mr. abbott, the bead-centre of the fun and movement, makes an admirable clown, and his get-up and action as Simple Simon tire enough to make a hermit laugh. He was fairly supported by the other members of the company, among whom Messrs. Chrisdu and Zeltner, as Pantaloon and Ctesar Augustus, deserve particular men? tion. The Introduction of the ballet was well received, and the hornpipe and Hungarian dance of Misses Barrett and Sanford were both encored. The pantomime went off in fine style, an?f/will bear the repetition which will take place this evening. THE STATE AND FEDERAL COURTS. TJniUd States District Court-Bf fore Judge Bryan. James DrKlrkpatrick, of Cd aries ton, bank? rupt, was granted his Anal discharge. George Washington Smith, convicted of distilling spirits without paying the special tax, was sentenced to pay a fine of $1000, and to six months' imprisonment from the 13th of January, 1872. The prisoner was then re? manded to the Jail in Greenville to serve out the time of his Imprisonment. Adjourned lill Thursday morning at eleven o'clock. The Common Picas-Judge Graham Presiding. The following cases were disposed of: Taylor vs. O'Neill. Verdict for the plaintiff for $432 57. Jas. B. Carberry, for Shepherd & Co., vs. J. and P. Dawson. Williams, for raising a disturbance in Anson street and resisting the police, was fined one dollar. Sarah SUvey, a white woman, found lying in a drunken state in Market street, was sent to the HouBe of Correction tat five days.
