STABBING SCRAPE.-Between eleven and twelve o'clock on Saturday night, Samuel Brown and Nat Fraser, two-colored men liv-1 lng together with their families in a house In McBride's lane, quarrelled about a slight of? fered to the latter's wife fey Brown, and coolly went oat into the street to fight Nat began the fight by slapping Brown and cursing him, when the latter, although a much larger man, drew his knife and gave Nat several severe stabs, and slashed on the outer part of both bis elbows as he stood upon his guard. The police here broke up th? fight and carried the combatants to the Guardhouse, where the wounded man bled fearfully. He was sent home to have his cats attended to, and it ls probable, owing to the severing of the muscles, tirai his arm will be stiff for life. Brown is held for examination at the Guardhouse. AMUSEMENTS. The Thomas Concerts. - The Thomas matinee on Saturday afternoon was very successful. M?BS Krebs only ap? peared once, but she, played Mendeisshon's Capriccio In B minor In brilliant style. The chorus and march from Wagner's Lohengrin was delivered with tremendous effect, and the rendering or Schumann's 2V?umerei (en? cored) and Weber's Invitation ? la danse was inimitable. At night the Academy was .well filled. The more noteworthy of the numbers were the scherzo from Mendelssohn's "Reformation Symphony," and Beethoven's overture to Leo? nore. The last-named, from an artistic stand? point, was the triumph of the concert. The Thomas Company give their first con? cert In Savannah to-night. The Fourth Annual Grand Masquerade of the Germania Bund takes place this evening in the spacious con? cert room oi the Academy ot Music. The prep? arations are extensive, and the committee seem determined io leave no device untried to insure the amusement and pleasure of their guests. THE COTTON TAX.-A Washington letter of the 1st Instant says: ;. . FEARFUL ACCIDENT TO A CHARLESTON-UN The Augusta Chronicle says: Yesterday morning a very serious If not fatal accident occurred on the Santa Carolina Railroad. An engine had backed down to the bridge across the river, and Hr. Wm; Forbes, an employee of the company, dismounted to couple a car belonging to the Georgia Ball road. There seems to have been some pecu? liarity In the bumpars of the cars of that com piny whicn he did not understand, and he was crushed between the engine and the car. He was at once taken to the city hospital, where the best medical assistance was promptly rendered. The injuries sustained are of a 1 very serious nature, and it is feared that they may prove fatal. Mr. Forbes ls a young man, and a resident of the City of Charleston. NEW SOUTH CAROLINA BONDS.-The New York Herald of Thursday, In its report of the stock market, says: The. Southern list was quiet and rather firmer for most of the leading bonds, especial? ly the South Carolinas, the new bonds touch? ing thirty'. The attention of holders of South Carolina bonds is directed to an advertisement elsewhere, asking their sanction of a move? ment to pedil?n the State for a refunding of the bonds into a consol bearing interest at the rate of six per cent. The advertisement referred to by the Her? ald reads as follows : ivofice to Holders of South Carolina Bonds. A number of the holders of South Carolina (new) bonds have drawn up a petition to the Legislature of that State, asking them lo anmorlze by law the funding &?? consolidation pf the various bonds ofthat State into a reg? istered stock, with Interest payable quarterly at the rate of six per cent, per annum. The petition Bets forth that the present holders of the bonds are willing to exchange the bonds now held by them for the new registered stock asked for, provided that provision shall be made for a permanent tax sufficient to pay the interest thereon, and create a sinking fund; and also provided that the debt of the State shall not be further Increased except by a vote In favor thereof of a majority of the legal voters of the State.
