The latter wa3 Imported lu Novem? ber, 1889, and this ls the first crop. The grapes are beautifully shaped, clear and luscious enough to tempt an anchorite. They are not unlike the Malaga. HOLMES'S LYCEUM.-A large number of the children belonging to tho Citadel Square Baptist Church assembled last evening at Holmes's Lyce? um and passed a pleasant evening in admiring the scenes shadowed forth from the Blnoptric Lantern of Professor Holmes. ' . * - -. BURGLAR BAGGED.-Paul Jackson, a colored man, was arrested yesterday morning by Officers Burke and Davla, charged with breaking luto and robbing the cabin of the schooner Elvina. Pani was one ot the boat hand J who was left in charge of the vessel at Southern wharr, and who had dis? appeared when the returning officers'-found the cabin broken into and robbed or everything valu? able. The prisoner ls held for examination on the .charge of burglary and larceny. BATTERING A SMALL BOY.-Jonas and Re? becca Jenkins, a colored couple residing In the upper part of the city, were, arrested last eve? ning charged with assaulting and battering little negro boy, named Chas. Taylor, In their em? ploy. The o?lcer3 were attracted by the vocife? rous shouts of Taylor, who was more scared than hnrt by a large snpple strap, which Jonas waa 'brandishing over him. The couple were held for examination before a trial jos;ice to-day. BULL-BATTING. - Considerable annoyance was occasioned yesterday afternoon, about o'clock, to the pedestrians on .Meeting and Queen streets, by a band or urchins on the green near the Chapel of the Circular Church. These were engaged in frantic attempts to hit with brickbats a number or bull-bats that were flying about. A sharp skirmish was kept up for some time with infinitely more danger to passers-by than the birds. - ^ : THE BALTIMORE STEAMSHIPS.-The superior line or steamships plying from this port to Balti? more, composed* of the Falcon, Captain Hayale, And the Sea Dull, Captain Dutton, or which ^fessrs. Mordecai A Co. and P. 0. Treuholm are agents, perform their trips with great rejularlty, ?nd are commanded by skilful and experienced ffleera. The Falcon, Captain Haynle, left hero for Baltimore yesterday. Captain Haynle ls an om ter or long experience and tried capacity, and 1B ol deserved popularity with the public. INQUEST.-Coroner Tait held an inquest on Thursday evening, at Market wharr, oa the body of a colored man named Edward Hey ward, who had died soddenly. The deceased was well known as a fisherman, and oa Thursday m rnlng had gone fl-hlng as osoal with several comrades In a canoe. While at sea Hey ward was taken with severe vomitings, and at hts earnest request the party started for home. The sick man lived to get on the wharr, wnen a messenger was dis? patched for a physician, before whose arrival Hey? ward died. Two parties, reported for allowing their dogs to run at large and bite people, were dismissed, no prosecutor appearing against them.
