The whole building was frandsomtly illuminated In honor of the oc? casion, and In the large gothic window of the front was titted a transparency representing the genius ot Germany, bearing the German flag In her right hand, and her left resting upon a shield,. inscribed with the motto, "In Unity ls Strength. " There waa a large attendance of the members of the Freundschaftsbund and Bruderlicherbnnd, but many or the ladles wore prevented from at? tending by the Inclemency of the weather. A Utile after nine o'clock the officers of the Meteor, Captain Knorr, Lieutenant Kuhn and Lieutenant Btendermann, entered the haU. es. corted by Captain Small. Consul Witte and Cap? tain A. Melohers, the band playing "Was 1st der Deutscher Vaterland.'' Captain Small, the presl dent of the Freundschaftsbund, then welcomed the distinguished visitors and formally Introduced them to trie ladles and gentlemen present. The chorus of the Bruderllcherbund next sang "Die Wacht am Rhein" with spirited expression and patriotic fervor, ".'wo or three songs followed, all handsomely executed, and dorng much credit to the gentlemen composing the club and still more so to their able and popular leader, Professor Alchel. The guests then mingled socially, and the band soon after, having struck np an enlivening air, dancing commenced with a very graceful Pas de Polonaise. The dancing once begun, never flag? ged for a moment, and the festivities were pro? longed uutll a late hour. The gallant officers were, or course, the cyno? sure or all eyes. They were welcomed as brothers by the gentlemen, and received with all favor by the ladles, for whose smiles brave hearts and heroic deeds seldom plead in vain. The enter? tainment was altogether a handsome affair, and reflected great credit upon the o Ulcers or the society, who affected so much In so short a space of time. _'_ _ BUSINESS NOTICES, ACTS GENERAL ASSEMBLY for 1871.
