His dusky partner retaliated with the broomstick, and being reinforc? ed by her daughter Jane, -commenced a lively attack upon her raging lord. THE MT. PLEASANT ROBBERT.-Last Satur? day night the premises of captain Dan. Sinclair on Mt. Pleasant were entered by a boy named Al? bert Mercer, who broke open the ponltrv-honae and carried off a lot of han 'some fancy fowls. With 1 his plunder the thief made his way to the city, and landing at the Mt Pleasant Ferry wharf he added to his s took of stolen gooda a loag rope, which was conveniently coiled up on the deck of a small boat. The matter was reported to ibo chief of police and Albert iras shortly arrested. He was turned over by the Mayor for preseestton to Trial Justice Levy, before whc he was ex? amined yesterday morning. The proof was clear, but the value of the property stolen being beyond the Justice's Jurisdiction, the prisoner was com? mitted to Jail for trial at the June teim of the Court of General Sessions. CURIOUS HISTORICAL FACT.-General B. F. Butler was prevented from blowing out the end of Dutch Gap Canal, on the James River, by orders from Washington; the naval authorities having announced it as Impracticable for them to defend all the points which would thus be exposed to the attack of the Confederates. This statement la made on the authority of a gentleman who heard lt directly from the Ups of General Butler. The decorations on the walls and tables were as fresh and beautiful as ever. The handsome wreath wrought by the hands or the young ladles at the .academy of the Sisters ls.
