not active, but remains pretty erm, and holders
are Indifferent operators in view of the small
stock here. Sales of 30 tierces in sm al lots nt

fair supply ; aud as holders refrain from asking
any advance thc demand continues good and
uniform, and the general tone of the market ls
quite-healthy. Salts of 300 bags Rangoon at 7a
7*c in lots.
From the Journal of Commerce : Rice remains
without change. The stock 01 ooth foreign and
domestic ls light whieh makes holders quite in
dlflcrent notwithstanding tie slackness of the
demand. We quote Carolina at 8a8*c, and Ran
. goon, duty paid, at 7*M7*C currency. Some 200
bags rangoon have been sold.

general market to-day has bee very dull. In
api:its turpentine consumers seem pretty well
supplied rri,m,ihe larne business or the last rew
days, but as the stock is light holders remain
conndi-nt and are not disp ted to realize for less
than 54a54^c for merchantable lots; at Mese rig
ores 50 bbls were so d; also 311 New York bbla at
55c. Rosins-The demand at the moment is small
and prices are altogether nominal; 240 obis
strained brought $2 60. We quote strained $2 60.1
2 62-st; No 2 at *2 8na3 25; No l$3 50a4 5u; pale
and extra $5a7 10. Tar is dull at $2 so fur Wash
ington and $2 60 for Wilmington.

market, and no receipts wonhy of report. We
therefore report the market as closing inactive.
Kew prop ls arri vin g in small quantities, and is in
moderate demand, parcels being generally taken
when offered for Bale. Thetraasaotlow are about
400 bbls at $5,6 26, 5 60, 5 75, 6, 6 26, 6 75 and $7.

with a fair demand from shippers.' The receipts

Norfolk Grain Market.
NORFOLK, April 12.-CORN.-The sales or the
week foot up about 12,000 bushels. At the close
of our last report white was firm at 82aSic, but
on Saturday prices declined foll So per bushel,
and some 30C0 hussels were sold at 80c. Yester?
day there was a farther decline of 2c, and white
was sold at 78c, and yellow at 76c. To-day' theTe
has been IK tie doing, the only sala, we hear or
being a very Bmall lot of prime white ? reported at
80c. Tils ?B, however, no criterion of tha market,
which cannot be quoted over 78c for whjte and
76 for yellow.
OATS.-The Bales this week have been very light,
and we hear of no transacuons for the last two
or three days. Last sa:es were at 63>?Q for fair,
and a totror very choice brought 66c. - -
PEAS-The receipts ol the week are l?rgcr in the
aggregatethan for some time past, and they have
come on a dull-and depressed-marker. The oe
cline noticed last week has not been overcbme;
in fact, ls rather more aggravated. This is par?
ticularly the case in .blacks and clays, the former
being in some cases sold down to $1 05, while
over $1 io to $115 ls not asked by any. Clays sell-1
at same prioe as blacks, but are not equal to them
In receipt. Black-eye sympathize to some extent,
but the margin of prices ls wider, according to
qualir.v, and rai>k from $'. to $166. The largest
salrs "have been at about $1 45 for fair, the top
prices being gotten fer rancy^eed lots.

SAVANNAH, April 13.-SEA ISLAND.-We have

have mane a chemical examination of a sample
of your "Schiedam Schnappe," with the intent ol
determining If any foreign or Injurious substance
had been added to the simple distilled spirits.
The examination haa resulted in the'conclusion
that the sample contained co poisonous or barm-,
ful admixtures. I have been unable to discover
any trace of the deleterious substances which
are sometimes employed in the adulteration of
ilquors. I wonld not hesitate to use myself, nor
to recommend to others, for medicinal purposes,
the "Schiedam Schnapps" as an excellent and
unobjectionable variety of gin. .Very respectfully
