THE STEAMSHIP FALCON.-To the surprise of most persons thia steamer was released from tho breakers near Morris Island beach, on Sunday evening about 8 P. M., and came up to the city dvring the night. At the time of her escape from the dangerous position no aid was at hand, and ehe came off by the working of her engine, the assistance of her canvas and a kedge. The stannett manner in which she has sustained her? self during two days' trial among <he breakers, ls the best evidence of the strength of her holL She bears no outward mark of damage, but has lost about one-third of her cargo, And bas some Inj' ty to the machinery, arising from the getting in of the sand among the works during the time the engine was in motion among the breasen. The offenders were a com? pany, of negro militia, armed to the teeth with Improved rifles and Axed bayonets. lt appears that eas No. l was going up King* street, -whan it overtook the company of negro militiamen, who were marching on the track. Tho car baited three times to aUow the blaok guard to get out of the way, and the car being" then behind time, the conductor rang the bell for ttie driver to go ahead. Instantly the militiamen, cursing like demons, surrounded the car, bran? dishing t heir weapons over the bea? of the driver, One squad seized the horse and dragged H to the Bide or the car. The driver stood to his post and was then struck over the hand with a clubbed rifle. This blow cut the hand badly and disabled the driver. The conductor ran to his assistance ano helped him'Into the car. Now the militiamen 1 t urned upon the cond uctor and struck him heavily upon the shoulder. Those of the militia who could not reach the car with their bayonets, then opened an active fl r?'wit h brickbats. With these missiles ' some or the car windows were smashed to pieces, 1 The militia were now thoroughly aroused, but .' were toned down by an officer of police. His ar? * rival saved the conductor and driver from worse violence abd* the car from destruction. As soon as thc road was clear the conductor and drive* ' went on to the upper Guardhouse, where they \ lodged their complaint, vre are not advised, how? ever, of tbe names of the rlotercor of the com? pany to which they belong. This Incident shows what the- whites have to ex? pect, when the armed militiamen, at fifty to one, attack unarmed citizens.
