vagrancy. The prisoner was Bateneed some
two years ago-to toe penitentiary by&ndge Moses,
and he has beep ont of that institution bat a few
weeks. Th e evidence tended to show that he was

sons by the triok of the strap game. He denies all
knowledge OF McIntyre and all complicity in the
strap business. Owing to the absence of mate?
rial witnesses the case was continued over for

RAILROAD ACCIDENT.-The down train on the
Union and Spanauburg Railroad, on Monday,
met with $n accident aboet fourteen m lies above
Alston, the point of Junction with the Greenville
and Coi umbra Road, caused bathe running off of
one freight and one-passenger ear. The passen?
ger car was turned completely, over and pretty
well demolished, aa was alao the freight car, both
being thrown do wrf an embankment fifteen feet
high. The car contained about twenty-five pas?
sengers who were more or less Injured, but none
mortally. Colonel W. a Gist, of Union, received
aseri?os wound in the ankle. Mr. A. B. Wood?

INQUEST AT THE WANDO WORKS.-Last Sun?
day evening, William Ball, a colored boy about
thirteen years of age, in company with a lot of
other boys, was amusing himself by riding on a
car on th? small railroad belonging to the Wando
Mining and Manufacturing- Company, aboat ten
miles from the city. The party were seated m
one or the dump cars for bringing phosphates
from the mines, and were running down a grade
' on the road at a pretty swift speed. At one place
the car tilted a little, and Rall, thinking lt was
'about to be "upset, attempted to leap from lt. He
failed to jump olear, and failing forward on the
track, the wheels of the car passed over the mid?
dle of his body. He was taken np insensible, and
expired about two hours after (he accident. The

ner Taft was notified,'and Monday afternoon an
