CLUBS AND STARS.-Annie Heyward and Grace Rose, two denizens of Elliott street, werie arrested ror quarrelling, lighting and raising an unearthly disturbance In the upper story of a house In that locality yesterday morning. After a hearing before the Mayor, they were each sent to the House or Correction for twenty days. L. Jones, arrested for soliciting orders for the firm of Lichstensteln Brothers k co., of New York, failed to appear before the Mayor, and his deposit of $25 was declared to be forfeited. ROBBING .A FLATBOAT.-Jack Gaillard (col? ored,) was arrested at 9 o'clock yesterday morn? ing, by Officer Daly, on the charge of stealing wearing apparel and bedclothes from a flatboat at the foot of Hasel street. The prisoner had been employed on the boat, and was discharged abont two weeks ago.. A few days later Le entered the boat and stole the articles referred to, and among them several shirt?. Be was tried before Trial Justice Schroder, and in court the laundress Iden ttSed the shirt upon GaHlard ns ono of the stolen arricies. He was sentenced forthwith to twenty live dava' imprisonment in the county Jail. Gall lard denies the theft, and says the articles were his own. _ _. THE SISTERS OP MERCY.-In the United States Senate, on Tuesday, Mr. Sawyer, from the committee on appropriations, to whom was re? ferred the bill for the relief of the Sisters of Oar L&fy of Mercy, of Charleston, South Carolina, re? ported lt without an amendment, and asked for its present consideration. A FREE FIG HT AND A B?CHEN HEAD.-On Thureday evening, Trial Justice Magrath, with the aid of a policeman, arrested a man who had Just assaulted a well-known citizen. The- arrest was made at the rennest of the -latter, and the prisoner was* taken to the Guardhouse.. He was released from arrest upon the representations of a mate of the City Point, who promised to see him aboard, . A DETERMINED THIEF.-About 9 o'clock on Thirsday night, John Critchbow, a youth or cok r, entered the grocery of Mr. O. Schroder, at the corner of Elliott and Church streets, and. seizing a tempting ham while the storekeeper was attending to other customers, walked off with lt. The shopman saw him lu the act, and, lay? ing hold of him, attempted to detain him and re? cover the ham. The ham stealer coolly whipped out a bowie knife and drew lt across the hands of his detainer, Inflicting severe' cuts. The last named gentleman is the Liver? pool partner of the same house. They are accom? panied by their families. Mr. Henry Morgan, owner of the New York Hotel, ia also at thc Mills House. Messrs. E. A. and S. T. Souder, the well known owners of Philadelphia steamships, are also at the same hotel. THE GREEN-EYED MONSTER AT WORK.-Jane Taylor was arrested and brought before Trial Jus? tice Magrath, yesterday morning, charged with an assault and battery upon one darlotte- Grant. The defendant and prosecutor we. e colored girls, staying-itta Uduseia E.llottstreet, and had got cn quite amicably until a gay deceiver, orsabie hue, '. came between them. A more flagrant Instance than usual of bis fickleness aroused the smoth? ered Jealousy of Jane, and with a short prelate of & quarrel she pitched into her rival. At th? end of j the fight she repaired to Trial Justice Magrath, and, displaying her bruised and bleeding person, asked for the law against her antagonist. The latter was duly arrested, and after a trial? having been fonnd guilty, was sentenced to pay a Ans of $2 and costs, or go to Jail Tor ten days. THE LADIES1 MEMORIAL FAIR.-lil bern'.an Hall was well filled last evening with visitors, ?ind among them were several substantial merchants, whose weakness for chances contributed not a little to make the firth evening highly successful. A Joyous aud light hearted circle revolved slowly around the raffle stand, and the animated con? versation and gay laugh told how well ail were enjoying the meeting. To the numerous attract? ive article? already enumerated by os wet e added, last evening, a fine specimen of a palmetto tree, and a beautiful Swiss scene. The former came from Binii'ton, sent by Dr. Pope, and stands near the centre of the hall, an ornament,! consonant and appropriate with tuc obfect of tbe fair and the feelings of the visitors. The Swiss scene is a wonderful piece of work. It repre? sents a farm-house on Ute bants or a lake.
