IMPORTANT TO POULTERERS.-John Francis and Henry Taylor, colored, two of the mont noto? rious young poultry thieves In the city, were Drought before Trial Justice Schroder yesterday afternoon for trial. They were charged wilh the recent spoliation of Mr. Adget's poultry hcuse, on Us premises in Legare street. The offene was proved, and, with: much indifference, admit? ted by the culprits. Francis was sentenced to twenty-five and Taylor to fifteen days ia the JaU. When his sentence was announced, Francis coolly criticised the choice of the justice in fixing upon the term of twenty-five days, and wanted tj know why he did not say thirty, as was expected. THE CHARLESTON RIFLEMEN CLUB SOIREE. This delightful entertainment took place last evening at the hau of the South Carolina Society, in Meeting street, and, under the management or the gaUant riflemen, the ample hall became once more a scene of gatety and enjoyment. The at? tendance on the part of the ladies was fair, and although there were not as many present as was j expected, the bright lights, handsome toilets and beautifiii forms were distracting enongh. A fine band in attendance sent forth soft strains of de? lightful music, and the dancers kept np their fas clnating amusement until a late hour. A DRUMM? ARRESTED.-Mr. C. J. Williams was arrested yesterday morning and taken to the detective's office by Officer Lovett on a charge of doing business without a license. He was found at an establishment, for seUlng sewing machines, where te bad* set up a Eeparate business as a sales? man. His goods consisted of a lot of stamping machines of a late patent, which he was dispos? ing of at a rapid rate by means of sevei al runners In different parts of the city. One of these was arrestee and told upon Williams, who, he said, bad a license.
