IA . . - The Largest Steamship on thc Atlantic Coast Service-Rooms for One Hundred and Fifty Passengers-Palatial Deck. Slate-Rooms - The "Empire State' Complimented. rae arrival yesterday of this large-sized and magnificently appointed ocean steamship at our port, ls a happy coincidence, in connection with our unusually- heavy cotton receipts from the West, and the immense amount of merchandise | freights, which, for the past six weeks, has tested our steamships and our railroads, on the main Unes, to all parts of the cotton belt. The Geor? gia has all the cotton awaiting her that Captain Crowell can, by the best management, stow away, and the pert of Charleston has already, and to ar? rive, cotton enough for several more Georgias, the estimated dispatch to New York the current week being 9000 to 10,000 bales. So we contemplate with a double pleasure both the quantity to be forward? ed, and the facilities at hand to meet the emergen? cy of trafic at our now growing seaport. The Georgia left New York on Thursday after? noon, with a large freight and forty passengers, and reached her piei early on Sunday morning. She is commanded by Captain Sidney Crowell. an | experienced shipmaster, and is in point of ton? nage and elegant appointments the most costly and commodious steamship on the coast. We are able to make up the following brief description of this new candidate for popular favor, and which has, with delicate propriety, been named m com? pliment to our big sister State across the "Isun dlga." THE HULL. which has been built at the yard of Messrs. Wm. Cramp A Sons, Philadelphia, ls of iron throughout, 285 feet long, 36 feet beam, and 21 feet depth of hold. Four heavy kelsons run fore and aft the ship, on either side of thc main keel, Insuring a strength which seems solid enoujh to bid defiance to storms, however severe. The frames are of heavy angle Iron, 18 Inches apart, with reverse Dara on each frame. The plating is X inch thick up co load line, and and H inch thick above, all loublerlvetted. The entire hull is divided into ?hree wat9r-tlght compartments, whichjrform of construction now mjets with general approval. ENGINE, BOILER AND SCRFACK CONDENSER. The eugine ls of loOD horse-power, and of the most approved build, with two return tubular softers, supplied with fresh water from a surface. Hndenser of large capacity. NSW PATENT WHEELS. In order to ins are speed, the Improved feather? ing bucket wheel has been adapted at great ex? pense;- these wheels are used exclusively OB all :he fast mali steamships In the English mall ser rice, and their merit ls la the maintenance of ml form revolutions In the heaviest weather. THE CABIN ARR IN O SHE NTS lave been all designed and made by Messrs. Ron? ane! A Co., of New York, and'are entirely different rom all other steamships we have seen, and in joint of arrangement, elegance and comfort, are 'olly up to the requirements of the times. The itate-rooms afford first-class accommodations for me hundred and fifty passengers, and embrace ipper and lower salo ms, running the entire length >f the main deck, ou which all the rooms are lo? fted. . There are two bridal-room-i of larger size, vit h handsome appointment s, and about six ty other ?ommodlous state room?, In each of which are a louble bed and single berth, supplied with hair nat tresses, on spring frames; carpets, china linen ind blankets being all of t!M finest material. There ire also In convenient locations a soclafhall, smok ng-room and bath-room. Itt the latter, passengers ?an order "hot or cold," "fresh or sea water laths" at their pleasure. : . THE STE WARD'S APARTMENTS ire on an extensive and complete scale, both for looking purposes and the keeping in order of the (lab?rate and costly outfit of so large a vessel, ar. Booth, formerly of the Tennessee, ls in ?harge of. this department, and has already esta? blished a reputation, with bon-rt rn nt s winch will ie put to the test and-, we doubt not, fully met on- J his new steamship. A TRIO OP FINE IRON' STEAMSHIPS. This useful steam line, which ls contributing so auch to the development of our port, is managed a Charleston by Messrs. wagner. Huger A Co., and lr. Wm. A PrsHLNG FIRM.-We are at all.times glad to chronicle evidences of enterprise and success on the part of our merchants. And it is with sin? cere pleasure that we notice that the firm of Furch gott, Benedict k Co., (formerly FurcbA| gott k Brother,) at the well-known corner of Cal. houn and King streets, Anding their store at that j point too contracted to accommodate their rapidly increasing business, have opened a new and very handsome branch establishment at No. 244 King street, near the Bend, where they are now pre? pared with a choice stock of dress goods, flan? nels, casslmeres, domestics, carpets, kc, to serve their down-town customers upon the same principie of quick sales and small prouts which has made their np town store so popular. It may b e added that the business success or the Messrs.
