Opinion of Bowen's Sn port?-*-Anotuer County Ticket. The belief of mauy of the Radicals that Daddy Cain would recognize the power of the late Hurley-Bowen Convention and cease all further opposition, was without foundation. The action of that convention, and the detec? tion of the Mackeyites, seem to have had the effect of making Cain more determined than ever in his opposition to the carpet-bag ele? ment. In the last number of the Missionary Record, he say that uthe time has come for every honest man in the Republican party to assert, his liberty and declare his opposition to a class of men who have proposed to rule the colored people of this State with a rod of iron and of damnable corruption. For the last two years a certain set of unmitigated scoundrels have dictated to the mass of voters of this State what they should do, what they should think, and how they should act; what they should say and how they should vote. There has been a certain class who have been 'pick? ed up' out of the prisons and gutters of pover? ty, coming to this State, begging their passage and lifting contributions to start them in bust ness, who have since grown so proud and ar? rogant that they now wish to dictate to the whole people what their duties are, and what they shall think." A FLAT DENIAL. Cain denounces as a base lie the charge of the Ring Organ that he "offered, in exchange for a nomination, to drop R. C. DeLarge for Congress, to slaughter his associates, and to support his opponents.'" He persists In his call for a convention on the 28th of this month, to make nominations for the county ticket. He asserts that the Bowenltes Intimidated the voters at several places of meeting, and thal Rowen's supporters at the Customhouse, and among the county commissioner;, used the public monies to advance the Interests of their leader. He charges that the county commis? sioners (not including Miller) "have expended thousands of dollars for their own private uses, and have charged lt to the county." * * * "There are now over seventy thousand dol? lars of checks given on the county treasury more than wlU possibly be paid this year out of the assessment." THE CAIN CONVENTION. Cain repeats his call for a convention on the 28th of this mooth, and says that Bowen and his friends who desire to control the Legisla? ture having rejected all overtures for a settle? ment of the county difficulty, he will go bet?re the people with another ticket, and means to fight lt out to the end. THE COUNTY TREASURER.-Mr. J. A. Dun )ar, who was sent here to investigate the Accounts of Mr. John R. S toll, the county treasurer, has, we learn, returned to Colum? bia. The result of his Investigations has not yet been made public. ARRIVAL OF THE MONSTER CxRao.-The new Iron steamship South Carolina, Captain Sim Adkins, reached her dock yesterday, after a rough passage Irom New York, with the larg est cargo of general merchandise ever cleared for a Southern port at New York. This splen? did steamship sails on Thursday next, after the arrival of the passenger trains on the South Carolina Railroad. CRUMBS.-On Friday night, belore a Radical mass meeting at Liberty Hall, Mr. R. S. Triar in was called on, and stated his position as the people's compromise Republican candidate for Congress. IMPROVEMENTS IN COLCMSU.-Our Columbia correspondent writes: "Columbia still goes on improving. New stores and buildings are going up in every direction; the clatter of the hammer and scraping of the trowel is heard on every hand. Mr. Walter Fisher 13 building two large commodious stores just opposite to the "Columbia Hotel." Adjoining these are two more, owned by Mr. Irving, about the same dimensions as those 0! Mr. Fisher. On the second block down, two more are being erected by Mr. Denny. These stores are al? ready rented, and are to be completed in Oc? tober. Mr. Calnan's new store, at the corner of Gervais and Main streets, is completed and occupied. Dwelling-houses, too, are building on many of the vacant lots, and go up and are completed with a rapidity that does great cre? dit to our artisans, and shows that capitalists feel a perfect confidence in the future of our city. The new hotel ls again talked of, the chief difficulty being in regard to a suitable pt, some being desirous that it should be sit? uated, as formerly, on Matn street, and others that it should be more retired. We hope, how? ever, that this difficulty will not stand long in the way. Tho Sprague-Clty contract has not been settled yet-lt is still lu the hands of the committee. There is a firm determination on the part ot our citizens to prevent, if possible, so nefarious a measure being carried out." ACCIDENT.-On.
