OUR PRICES CURRENT_We especially Invite the attention of our merchants to THE NEWS P$ces Current, issued this morning. Of the time of the meet? ing of Mishaw's convention we are .'not in? formed. It is generally believed by the Radi? cals that each convention will have a county ticket, and that Cain will run tor the Senate on one, and Mlshaw for the same pos Rion on the other. THE CHARLESTON SEMINART.- We invite at? tention to the advertisement of this new school fur young ladies, which appears else- ' where in our columns this morning. IMPROVEMENTS.-On the lots at the corner of Market and East. Bay streets, where, In order to secure a solid foundation, an innumerable number of piles have been lately driven, are to be erected two handsome three story brick stores. The buildings will be quite modern in style, and furnished with elegant iron fronts. The work is being executed for Mr. Luhrs, and ls under the supervision of our skilful towns? man, Mr. Thomas Black, who is pushing it forward rapidly. Other parties are, we learn, anxious to re? build the waste plaees higher up the Bay, but are retarded by the delay ot the City Council In settling definitely the matter of widening the street, which has been spoken of for some eight years, and from present appearances is likely to be only spoken of for twenty years to come._ CRUMBS.-Muller's Band left the city yester? day for Bennettsviile, where Judge Carpenter and General Butler will speak to-morrow. B. Walllnger yesterday disproved bet?re the Mayor the charge of. soliciting orders for li? quor without a license.. Judge Orr was in Bichmond on Tuesday last, en route for the White Sulphur Springs. The moonlight excursion of the German Fire Company will start from the foot, of Market street next Monday evening, at 8 o'clock. A pleasant time ls expected. There are twenty-four positions tor which the Radical County Convention will have to make nominations next Monday, and lt is said that there are over two hundred aspirants. A valuable gold watch, supposed to have been stolen, has been recovered by Officer Qidnn. CATHOLIC INSTITUTE.-The regular monthly meeting of the Catholic Institute was held at their hall last evening, President Bernard O'Neill in the chair. Before the business of the meeting was en? tered upon, the president introduced to the members present the Rev. Dr. Corcoran, the first president ol the institute, expressing his great pleasure at seeing again one, who, by his learning, was an ornament and an honor to his native city. Dr. Corcoran thanked the president for his kind welcome, and said he was very much gratified to find the institute in so flourishing a condition, and assured the members that wherever he might be, he would always be with the institute in spirit. The regular business of the meeting was then called up, and .several member? were elected, after which, on motion, the meeting adjourned. SHIPMENT OF GRAIN IN Bcr.k.-The first car? load of bulk corn shipped to the South was' sent from St. Louis to Augusta, Ga., on the first of this month. "The advantages resulting from bulk shipments ot provisions will," says the Constitutionalist, "at once become appa? rent from the fact that it is computed that upon a car of corn at least $31 are saved in sack money, and that on a car of bulk sides $54 eask money ls saved. The entire cost of | sacks ind casks may very properly be esti? mated as so much money lost, since lt is rare? ly that anything of consequence can be realized irom their sale after use, owing to tho difficul? ty planters experience in preserving the sacks, and the usual consumption of the casks for fuel. The inauguration of this new ?lan of j shipment of grain and meals to the South is an event which must not only contribute lo the expansion of the trade of St. Louis, but prove of great financial good to Southern con? sumers, in the large amouxt of money saved." THE NOMINATIONS EOE THE OCTO? BER ELECTIONS. TO THE EDITOR OF -THE NEWS. . I am pleased to notice that a writer, over the signature ol" "Convention," has referred to the importance of the immediate convening of a convention to make nominations for the pending election. The unequalled and unpar? alleled legislation, which has been correctly styled "a disgrace to civilization," demands that honesty and qualification should be the guarantees .to claim the people's suffrages; and by the selection of those to form a conven? tion who are known to possess the confidence of the entire county, victory will be achieved. As has been remarked by '^Convention," "individual action" will accomplish nothing. Side-door manipulation must be eschewed; and when the people, :n convention, make their selections, confidence will be established, and those who have disgraced the" positions with which they have been entrusted, will be swept from power. I hope that the suggestions which have been presented by "Convention" will receive the attention of those who are authorized to act, and that the nominating couvention for Charleston County will be called together at an early day. Whole settlements are sometimes prostrated by the disease, and lt ls regarded In some localities as one of those visitations of Providence which cannot be avoided. This ls a mistake. As cer? tainly as any ol the evils which are Invited by neglect may be forestalled by precaution, so cer? tainly may an attack or Intermittent (or remit? tent) fever be prevouted by invigorating the sys? tem with Hostetter's Stomach Bitters In advance of the season at which this malady prevails. Pre? vention, lt ls needless to say, ls the wisest policy; but lt ls consoling to know that where time has not been thus taken by the forelock, and the par? oxysms have actually commenced, a complete cure nay, in all cases, be rapidly effected by the use of this powerful vegetable tonic. The repu? tation of the Bitters as a specific for dyspepsia, liver complaint, constipation and nervous debili? ty, has In some measure thrown into the shade Its merits as a preventive and cure of other ali? ments, bat all who have ever taken it, either as a protection against or remedy for ma'arlous fe? vers, will admit that it surpasses in efficiency all the so-called specifics (including quinine) usually prescribed for these maladies, while lt ls at the same time entirely harmless and decidedly pala? table. sep3-CD,tc YOU CAN SAVE MONEY BY HAVING YOUR PRLNTINU EXECUTED AT THE NEWS JOB OFFICE. ?-ORDERS PROMPTLY FILLED.-?? This is what eminent men have said of Irish Moss as it was-only half purified and compara? tively uoconcentrated. The new article (SEA MOSS FARINE)-which, by the magic of science, has suddenly sprang, pure and perfected, from an old matrix, like Minerva from the bed of Jove takes a far wider range. .To us It ls to reduce the expense of living, to spread the family board with luxuries costing less than common fare, and large? ly to increase that variety in food which ls said to be essential to health. It is quickly prepared (ten minutes sufficing to produce a custard or pudding,) and we think no one who has once be? come acquainted with Its properties will bc likely to ever abandon lt as an article or diet. aep5-mwf3D?c_ ms- SEA MOSS FARINE FOR SALE, Wholesale and Retail, at CORWIN'S Grocery, No. 275 King street._nng26-fmw /VAN APPEAL TO THE CITIZENS OF CHARLESTON.-The Niagara Fire Engine Company, No. 8, of Charleston, being desirous of rendering their organization more efficient for the pr?serv?t ion of property from fire, earnestly so? licit the citizens in general to aid the Company in the purchase of a new Engine.
