UNION REFORM CLUB OF WARD 8.-There was a large and enthusiastic gathering of the citizens of Ward 8, at their commodious hall, corner of King and Line streets, last night, President Slgwald In the chair. A motion to appoint a working committee of twenty was carried, and the chair stated that he would ap? point the committee by the next regular meet? ing. On motion, a committee of three was un? pointed to secure speakers for tho next meet ng. Messrs. E. H. Gadsden. Moses Sumter md S. H. Rodgers compose the committee. Mr. Malony addressed the meeting Ia a nanner calculated to strengthen the Influence >f ra? Reform party, and said that, though he ras a stranger in the land, his whole soul was vi th the State of South' Carolina. He said he ras in favor ot Republicanism, but he wanted lonest Republicanism; and In order to secure nd maintain an honest government, he urged mity among our people. [Applause.] Mr. Yanderllppe, In a few remarks, spoke 1 ilalnly and to the point. He was greeted with 1 jreat cheering. ' Mr. S. Henry Rodgers followed in a long and stirring address, placing the true principles of :he Reform platform broadly bet?re people, md urging them to rescue our State from her rxeat peril. Mr. Rodgers's remarks were well .1 med an&earnest, and we are satisfied that :hey made a lasting Impression upon his uidlence. Messrs. Black, Hawthorn-who paid a high iribute to South Carolina gentlemen-and [Jarr?n, of Orangeburg, followed la able and telling speeches. Mr. 'Carroll exposing the rascalities of the Scott Ring In his section. Mr. Throw, who was loudly called upon, said he was an unlettered colored man, but spoke quite as much to-the point as any one who had preceded him. He elicited the most uproarious applause. Alter speeches by many other earnest labor? ers In the Reform cause, the meeting ad lourned. . ? WARD NO. 3 REFORM CLUB.-The regular meeting of the club was held last night. It was one of the largest meetings held by the club' during the campaign. After the transae ion of the routine business, the club was undressed by the following gentlemen : Rev. Adam Jackson, from Christ Church Parish, was called upon, who. while he had for ,-ears paid little attention to the state of ifrairs, he felt compelled to come forward and lid tho Reform movement. He spoke of the property he had accumulated through hard abor, and he feared that If a change did not ake place he would be forced to sell a portion ;o meet the taxes on the residue. He felt confident that, with a united purpose, the Be? or m party would be successful. He closed als remarks amid great applause. Mr. Mathews being called upon, made a tell? ing spaech. addressing himself specially to the colored persons present. He stated that he would be plain in his remarks. He desired to see Scott and his Ring driven from the State. He referred to the peculations of the Scott dynasty, showing up the fraud of the Rlagltes. and stated that Governor Scott had migrated to South Carolina, bringing no re? commendation as to character. He then re? ferred to the high standing of Judge Carpen? ter and General Butler, and drew a striking picture of the carpet-bag government of South Carolina. His remarks elicited considerable applause. Mr. Hall was loudly called fo.% and spoke at some length. It was his Impression, while on his recent travels through the Interior, that the great movement for Reform was receiving ac? cessions dally, and that the candidates of the party would be successful." It was "true,'that, intimidation had been rt weted to hy the Scott Ring, but by presenting a firm front fer Re? form, Intimidation had proved futile. He ad? vised his hearers'to stand firmly for the move? ment, and redeem the State from the vandals. He denounced the Union League as the worst form of slavery. He regretted to see his color-, ed friends straying away from those among whom .they had been raised, and aiding those who were prejudicial to his race, and spoke of his'visit to James Island, feeling sure that Carpenter and Butler would be successful in that region. Mr. Hall was listened to atten? tively, and closed amid loud applause. A committee pf three was appointed to se? cure speakers lor each meeting of the club. The meeting adjourned with three rousing cheers for Carpenter and Butler. The club has put up a large transparency tearing its name and appropriate mottoes.
