The mistakes which have been made in the several paragraphs in different papers con? cerning the "accidental shooting." and the Injustice which has been done to Robert Scott by misrepresentation, cali upon the under? signed to give a circumstantial statement of the sad occurrence, which was as follows : The roll being called for the payment of dues by the members of the association alluded to in your colums, Mr. Scott was showing that he was not In arrears to the amount for which he was called, when the secretary interrupted him, saying: "You are nothing but a little thief and a Har." Scott retorted : "Then you are a bigger thief;** whereupon his antagonist struck him in the face, causing him to fall into his seat. In the act of falling, Scott extricat? ing his pistol, endeavored to cock it, holding lt to nts left. It exploded in that act, before he could bring it to bear upon his adversary. He did not threaten, "I will shoot you," nor act otherwise than as a man in haste to defend himself against an immediate assault made upon him by a stronger hand "without just cause Dr provocation." In the course of the previous debate with the said secretary, (who acknow? ledges himself to be the author of the state? ment made in your columns yesterday,) Scott had expressed his respect for that person, and seemed t" wish to avoid a difficulty with him.
