SOLD.-yesterday morning, a drummer of a Northern house visited a firm on East Bay, and ?commenced displaying his samples, and, of -cforse, dilated upon their many merits. Thinking to have a Joke upon thc drummer, a member of the firm went np stairs, detached from a sardine bax its brass medal, attached it to his coat, went down stairs and told the drummer that he. was violating the law in selling goods without a license, and would have to go before tho Mayor to answer the charge. The drummer was con? siderably surprised, but observing the medal on the breast of the one who " spoke as -one in authority," and fully believing him to be a bona floe detective, concluded to submit gracefully, and go with him to the Mayor. He made all preparations to start, but the Joke had gone far enough, and a laugh from aU hands told the drummer that he was a victim. He acknowl? edged that he had been "sold," and stood treat all around. The Academy of Music, last night, was not uncomfortably full, but thc audience waa both large and fashionable, and when the first cold? ness wore on", applauded the .performers .wit h aa. much taste as energy. Miss Patti was third on the programme, but must come first ln.any notice of a concert In which she takes part. The cavati? na from "Linda" was well chosen a3 her intro? duction to a Charleston public, and the fair can? tatrice will not complain of any want of warmth in her reception. The clear, limpid notes filled every corner of the Academy, and the florid pas? sages of the cavatina were delivered with exquis? ite crispness. The marvellous vocalization of Miss Patti was best seen, however, in tho brilliant 'Carnival of Venice," thc battle-horse of the evc njng. ^Itneed not bo' said that this was sung as only Miss Patti can sing it, and the audience in? sisted upon an encore, which was at last conced? ed. Miss Patti, lt may be hinted, is not fond of escores. The duo from "L'Elisird 'Amore," is gem, ?nd gave Mr. Ritter an opportunity of prov? ing himself the possessor of a full baritone voice. Mr. Ritter is a pianist of the first rank, and his poetic phrasing and rippling touch were shown to great advantage in hi3 piano solo. No finer pian? ist than Kr. Ritter has visited Charleston for many a year. Mr. Prume ls a master of his ex? quisite instrument, and awakened the audience to lively enthusiasm. Mr. Squires, the tenor, snug with great delicacy and feeling, aud Herr Hermanns filled tbe wliolc building with hts mag? nificent basso: The concert was abundantly successful, and the audience discovered that, while they had not before them the meretricious charms of burlesque, they would seldom, If ever, find a company of ar tlsts all of whom should be so distinguished In their musical specialty as the Patti Concert Troupe. To-night there is an entire change of pro? gramme. Only a few tickets remain unsold. Wyman, the Wizard. The announcement that Wyman would con? tinue his seances for another week Iras given gen? eral satisfaction, and his entertainment last night was attended by a crowded house. The marvel? ous dexterity with which the feats of legerdemain are performed is surprising, but the gifts that are scattered broadcast are not unattractive to the lucky ticket-holders, and many have found the fifty cents spent to be the bc2t investment made tn their 'ves. The entertainment will be con? tinued this week, with the lire-like automatons | j and other attractions. A matinee will be given on Saturday. Dramatic Cblt-Cbat. John Robinson's Circus ls billed for Montgome- | , ry, next week. The Dalton Dramatic Company went to pieces this week, in Americus, and the actors and act-, . resses are, as usual, "up in a balloon." Charlotte Thompson ls In the second week of her engagement at the Mobile Theatre. Her new play, "On the Brink," ls being presented with | l mach success. English papers say that Patti-Caux will "pay one visit to the United States and then retire into prlvatellfe." Another account says she has al? ready sailed. Circuses travelling through the South, say s an exchange, have to keep two sets of hands, one to de the work and another to fight the niggers out | , after the chow ls over. They want to stay all night. The Richings English Opera Troupe will shortly visit (on their return trip North.) Montgomery, | 1 Columbas, Macon, Atlanta, Augusta, Charleston and Savannah. The chorus of thc troupe ls | 1 claimed to be the best that travels. MSETTKG OF THE STOCKHOLDERS OF THE GEORGETOWN RAILROAD COMPANY.-A meeting of the stockholders of this oompany was held In Georgetown on Thursday last. The meeting was organized by calling Hon. B. H. The following committee was appointed to ( draft oy-laws for thc" government.of the compa? ny: r R. Dozier, W.P.Congdon, C. P. Alston. TJie committee reported a series or by-laws, 1 consisting of sixteen articles, which we4feepar- 1 ately read and adopted as a whole. On motion. 1 lt was ; Resolved, That, the president and4directors be authorized abd requested to appoint commission? ers tor the pur pose or opening books or subscrip? tion at such points along the line of the road as they may deem necessary aud expedient for in? creasing the stock. At a meeting of directors subsequently held, W. J. Green was appointed en?lneer-in-chief, and S. S. Fraser secretary and treasurer to the Com? pany. The building of the old Bank or Georgetown has been secured as an oftlce, and a corps of engi? neers will be at ouce In the field to make a survey or the road. Forty miles of the road were graded and cross, ties furnished in the year 1SC3. It is the purpose of the company to dnlsh the road at the earliest practicable moment to a point which connects with the Northeastern Railroad, thus opening connectlou with Charleston. We learn that overtures have been made by parties North to subscribe largely to the stock on certain contingencies, and many persons along the route have agreed to subscribe.
