The Columbia Guardian says: "We are highly pleased to learn, by letter from Sig. C. A. Chlz zala, manager of the Mcculloch and Brlgnoll Italian Opera Company, that they expect to give two representations In Columbia, on the 25th and 26th of March, the operas 'Martha' and 'Trova tore' having been selected for the occasion. In these operas, Miss MoCullooh and Sig. Brlgnoll have created a perfect furore In New York, all the Eastern cities, and In California. THE DEATH PENALTY.-Friday and Anthony Nixon, father and son, who were sentenced to be hong for the murderof Richards, another colored man, wlU expiate the crime to-morrow, in the jail yard, between the hours of 10 and 12 A. M. Some time since, Friday Nixon made a confes? sion, In which he assumed the sole responsibility of the mnrder, and entirely exonerated his son from any participation in the crime. This was -entirely dur?rent from previous confessions, and the appearance of the body and the knowledge that there were but the three persons In the flat? boat at the time, has induced the belief that the rattier was trying to shield the son. They have each professed their willingness to die. thongh Anthony Nixon, the son, corroborates the confes? sion ot tbe rather. A strong effort has been made to obtain the Executive pardon for the younger Nixon, but no intimation has been received thus far that the petition will be granted. He was not round until the next rooming, when his bead and shoulders were burned completely on*. A colored constable in Marlon captured a party br thc name of John Brown, an old offender, but was outwitted by his prisoner, who had been granted permission to change his clothes, and aid change so effectually as to pass thc constable and posse and effect his escape. John went into the honse a man and emerged a woman. At the regular quarterly meeting of the board of managers of the South Carolina Monnment As? sociation the treasurer reported contributions as follows: From Richland $347 60, Kershaw ^$5, Union $50 50, Lexington $20; Orangcbnrg $6, Fairfield $71, Barnwell $20, Abbeville $9, beyond the State $12 60. The attendance last night was good and thc acting capital, on entirely new programme being presented. Thc singing was especially good, both ia the solos and chorus. Ricurdo, the prima I donna, fully sustained his reputation, and the won? derful effect produced by a m:>lo singer with a soprano voice brought down the bouse. Tho witticisms and sallie*of thc end-men always pro? voke laughter, and LaTttie's troupe understand this branch of noting thoroughly. Aside from thc usual rontiuc of a burnt cork performance, this troupe have Introduced a a number of burlesques and comical impersonations that keep thc audi? ence on a broad grin. Thc original Shoo Ply admirably rendered, and' with other attractions from a programme varied each overing, yet al? ways mirth provoking and enjoyable. Thc min? strels perform again to-night with new novelties on the bills. The Berger Family Bell-Rlngcrs. Muslo Hall was well attended last night, and the Berger Family, with the incomparable Sol Smith Russell, gave their closing entertainment. The music of the bcll3 was only equalled by thc sweet notes of the cornet band, while the singing of Miss Annie Berger and Miss Maud Stanley was so charming that thc audience were enthusiastic in their encore*. A pleasing feature in thc per? formances of the Bell-ringers ls the varied char? acter of each entertainment, and. as the actors arc both pretty and perfect, they cannot fall to interest the public. For Sot Smith Russell it Ls useless to speak; he ls sui generis, one among a thousand, and able to make even a ghost smile andRtly. His Impersonations and songs have earned him a reputation that will draw wherever the troupe may go. It is to be regietied that the engagement of the Bell-ringers cannot be length? ened, and that thc weather should have been so disagreeable during their stay. St. Joseph.** Pair. Thecrowds that attend the Hibernian Hall have shown no lack of interest in the fair, but lt is each night a scene of pleasure and animation. The attractions that have been presented were fully equal to those of other fair?, and thc public have not withheld their hands, but have responded lib? erally to thc demands on thc purse, knowing that the pleasure of givlus was more than a recom? pense. Last night the number of visitors was large, and though lt was announced as "positive? ly the last bu: one." there wore no signs of the final demolition, but all was bright and beautiful. The performances at the Academy, No. 2, were the event of the evening, and thc doorkeeper made a small harvest of greenbacks.
