THE COTTON MARKET.-Notwithstanding the
very full receipts now being reported from week
to week at most of the cotton ports, and the pro?
bability that the highest figure that the crop is
likely to reach has already been estimated and Its
influence felt, the article during the week under
review has shown a firm front, and prices have
taken an advancing turn. The appearance of the
English market is decidedly better, and under its
effect New York has taken a firmer attitude. At
the former prices opened at ll?id and improved
to ll&d, and the latter advanced rrom 25??c to
25KC for middling uplands, while at this port the
article stiffened from 24,l4' to 24&c for middlings,
with but a limited supply offering.
The New York and Liverpool markets have
shown the following transactions and prices ror
the week : On Friday, January 21, the rorraer was
steady at il??d., sales 12SO0 bales; the latter was
weak at 25?;c, sales 1100 bales. On Saturday the
former was steady at ll,5;d., sales 12,000 bales;
the latter was unchanged at 25?ic, sales 2300
bales. On Monday the former was buoyant at

at 25>ic, sales 4000 bales. Ou Tuesday the former

The Journal, of Hie 'juth Instant, says: Receipts
