we except the rigidity of holders in sustaining;
their views, which has caused cautions buyers to
look for thu reason-why prices Should be main?

a greater or less degree all tran pact lons which
: have hard money for a basis-while gold In New
York has fallen from 180 to 127, and while other
-controlling canses have led bears to beat down
prices. While speculators discuss the probable
vield of the crop, planters who have made lt know
that their cotton ls as good as gold, and that the
visible supply will fall far short of the accumu?
lating demand of the world. The crop has been
made, and whether a lon* or short one this fact
appears, that it is almost entirely housed, awalt
line: the easy convenience of the owners to be put
upon the market. Our advices indicate that the
yield will fail far short of what has been predict?
ed and that consequently buyers will be obliged,
in order to HU their orders, to meet the views of
holders, who are stlrr tn their views as to the
value and extent of the crop.
SBA ISLAND.-In this grade of the staple the
market may be said to have opened, there having
been an increased inquiry during the past week
for the fine grades of this staple. Sales of 120
bales have been effected against 70 bales last
week, and prices have been fully sustained, hold?
ers not desiring to part with lots un tu the market
has been established. The crop ls coming in
freely, and held firmly In anticipation of a de?
mand, which must strengthen prices. We quote:

The receipts at this fort aluce October 28th
amount to 17.862 bales of upland and 207 bales of

gusta and Georgia Railroad last evening, and
consequently cannot separate them until next

RICE.-The stock of new rice has been Increased
during the past week by arrivals at both mills,
and operations have been commenced, putting
clean on the market in small lots, the market
ruling dull, bcyerson orders and local consumers
holding off In anticipation of a further decline.
